Looks good and useful to boot! Mess....what you have is not mess.....you should see my work area (actually you shouldn't it is a total disgrace).....should tidy it but I am basting today....

Beautiful. I think that is wonderful he helped make it. It help save money from having to buy a fancy new one and you get something special from him making it. This does lead me to a question: Could you take a towel rap it around a old cutting board then use fabric as a top and make a ironing board? someone asked me this once and ive been curious ever since.

would foil keep the steam from working thru. Next to the wood, before fabric layers.
