Asking for advice on storage carts
 

Last year, I bought the upright 10 drawer wheeled cart. This is the cart with 10 plastic drawers. Each drawer is approximately 2 inches deep and the drawers come in 5 different colors (blue, red, purple, etc...). I know some of the board members have purchased this cart. Are you using it for scraps, quilt books, or tools? I personally find that it is too shallow to hold a lot of items. Just curious about how you are using yours? I'm thinking about buying a Honey-Can-Do 12 Drawer Chrome Studio Organizer Cart. This is the 12 drawer cart with different size drawers and a space on top that can hold a small cutting mat. I have a Z line corner desk in the sewing room. This desk setup has two computer desks joined by a crescent shape corner piece that holds the large mat and sewing machine. I'm thinking that I could use the cart behind the sewing area (forming a U) that would allow me to clear up space for my second machine or give a surface that is easier to cut on. My desk is currently just a tad too high, crowded, and my desk chair is at its highest point. Buying another chair is also something I'm considering but I'm not buying a $200-300 sewing chair. I really prefer a nice office chair. Anyway, I'm curious if anyone has bought the Honey-Can-Do cart and is using it for cutting? Also, any ideas about office chairs? Thanks so much for your advice!

I use mine for specialty rulers, rotary cutters and extra blades, extras of other things, and my thread. I love it for my thread because it is shallow so I can lay them on their sides and see the colors. No more picking up the spool a bit to find the right color. I have them sorted by spool size and brand. The bottom drawer is all of my really big spools and cones, and then all of my rayons/embroidery ones, etc.

Be careful with what you put in the drawers. If they are too heavy, then the drawer will fall out of its guides/slots.

Oh, and I put some of the Command Hooks on the sides to hold my larger rulers too.

As far as the chair, go to an office supply store and start sitting. I have a great chair that I purchased from Staples. I would have bought it at any price, but I found it on sale for $79, regular price was $160.

I have one...waste of money. Wish I did not buy it. I will soon be finding something else.

I have the same one and I use it to store squares that I cut from my scraps. I find the shallow drawers handy and I can sort the squares by colour and size. When I am working on a scrappy quilt I pull the drawers right out and pick what I want. I also have cords stored in some drawers. I like mine.

I have one that was a gift. I use it a lot. Each drawer will hold two of the plastic flip-top pencil boxes that you can find at Wal Mart for $1.00 this time of year. I keep needles, crochet hooks, extra machine feet that I don't use too often, small rulers and templates. Those things work well in the boxes in the drawers. I label the boxes, too.

I use mine for storing thread accessories Ect. My drawers are a bit deeper.

I have one of those carts with the colored drawers. I love it for individual projects, or planned projects. I make a lot of other things besides quilts so it works well for me. I have two other chrome rolling carts that are other sizes. They all have their uses. And I like the kind on wheels so that I can move them closer to where I need them or even just to clean under.

I hve one also, and I like it. I have several sewing machines. I keep the manuals for each machine and extra feet and bobbins for each machine in their own seperate drawer. One drawer has my applique supplies, bias bars etc. Another has specialty rulers in it, Dresdan Plate, tirangle, etc. Helps me to keep things organized.

I just bought one and love it...sits at the end of my work table by my machine, stores all my embroidery cards and threads as well as my embroidery machine on top when I'm not using it which frees my little table up next to my machine. I just bought my friend one also as I got such a great deal on it!!
