cutting table
I am in the process of getting a sewing room (!!! very excited about that !!!) and I was wondering about the cutting table. I am going to put in something similar to the island I have in my kitchen,,,same height and same table top area...what I would like suggestions for is how to best use the space under the counter top?
drawers? pegboard? open shelves? |
Drawers would be nice if you have lots of patterns
Bookcases if you collect books/magazines wire baskets if you have lots of fat quarters... |
If you CAN do drawers by all means do it! keeps the dust off of stuff. I just put all my threads in a drawer unit, sick of having to dust before I use them. Fabric....same thing. It will get dusty. Cant wait to see your new room :)

There was a post in this section recently that showed an open sliding shelf that had special spaces for rulers. Now that looked great!
You are on the right path by making the table high enough. I've thought that an edge for the cutting mat to butt up against would be good, like they have in the LQS. |

Hubby and I are busy renovating my sewing room! He made me a cutting table awhile ago and it's so handy. Lots of shelf space in the middle, drawers and shelves at the front ends. The two ends (sides) hold all kinds of fabrics as they are an open shelf as well. I'll try and send a photo.

I would probably do a combination of shelves and drawers.

Drawers and more drawers. All sizes of drawers for all kinds of things, but mostly your cutting supplies!
|
If it is freestanding you could do some of each. Pegboard on one side (or the ends), drawers and shelves underneath.

I have a horn cutting table with drawers and open cubby storage, it is wonderful.

Used filing cabinets are great also.
