Sewing Room Pictures

4 Attachment(s)
I have been meaning to post pictures of my sewing room for awhile. I have been off work this week and am finally getting to it. My husband had most of it done about 3 years ago. He keeps modifying and re-engineering things as time goes. He made the design wall this week.

Special features include a small ironing board that swivels and folds down completely flat at the end of the sewing counter, a pullout counter extenstion to the right of my main machine for pins, scissors, etc.. and a base for my chair to keep me from rolling out of position:D

Love your room, I would never leave if it was mine! Does your hubby have a brother by any chance...? ;-)

Such a great space. I too have cabinets, upper and base and a long countertop. I share my sewing room with 4 cats and now keep their food, water and rugs on the countertop. One or more likes to play in the water and I have to keep a towel under the water bowl, better on contertop than wood floor.

What a great room, I have sewing room envy. lol

sew4nin 07-27-2012 12:02 PM

I share my space with 3 dogs. They were in a lot of the pictures, but they didn't make the final cut. I have an English Pointer, Black Lab mix, and Jack-a-bee (jack russell/beagle). I am always having to step over, go around, or God forbid, get someone to move. My sewing would be lonely w/ out them!

I have 6 machines, but if I had to choose just one, the 7570 would be it. My mom has the 1471 which is one of the earliest versions of this machine. It is 25 or 30 years old and she still loves it.

Sorry, his brother is married. He is not nearly as handy, anyway. My hubby is the only one who got the "handy" gene from their dad.

nunnyJo 07-28-2012 04:39 AM

phenomenal area, have fun

sew4nin 07-28-2012 06:37 AM

Those are just strips that I have cut from some scraps and fabric I got on craigslist (thank you havplenty). Since the picture I have put them away in their appropriate 1.5", 2", and 2.5" boxes. I will use them eventually in a scrap quilt. I wish I had a more exciting answer.

You have a very lovely sewing room. I LOVE the small ironing board and the fact that it folds down flat. Your design wall is AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing.

Have a blessed weekend.

WOW this is so neat, I love the swing out ironing board, I hate getting up to press pieces. The rest sure looks well
organized also. The thread holders on the wall is nice do you cover your thread?
Thanks for sharing

sew4nin 07-29-2012 05:55 AM

I do cover my thread. It is covered with clear vinyl sheeting to keep it from getting dusty. Each rack has its own seperate cover and I just lift it up to grab what I need.

Nice space. The fold out ironing board is a great idea.

carslo 07-29-2012 08:18 PM

Your room is so bright and neat!

sew4nin 07-29-2012 08:49 PM

I should have mentioned the lighting in my sewing room. Whatever the DH did with the lighting means that I no longer use the gooseneck light that came with my quilting machine. The lighting is fabulous. If anyone is working on lighting and wants suggestions, I can post information on what he did. He tried several things before we got what I now have. I have no shadows and can see everything better than I ever did before!

Nice room. Thanks for sharing always looking for ideas as honey buns says he building me a room soon. Anything to suggest?

cindyg19 07-30-2012 04:58 AM

I agree with everyone. It's a great room, and is a functional example of what can be done in a relatively small space. Good job. It's giving me the emotional push to finish setting mine up. Thanks.

cindyg19 07-30-2012 05:01 AM

yes, please. I think we all would like to know abut the lighting.

sew4nin 07-30-2012 06:25 AM

I'm not sure I will ever be totally finished setting mine up - always a work in progress. BTW the pictures don't show how big the room actually is. It is 12X17' - There is a queen size bed in there AND I have my quilting frame set up with plenty of room for my cutting table. I don't like having the guest bed in there, but until I can talk one of the kids into moving out, I'm stuck with it.

He used 120 watt equivalent CFL (23 watt) daylight. There are 9 floodlights. I also have lighting under the cabinets that I rarely use because the other lighting seems to do the trick. He tried several different things before coming up with the solution.
