This is a re-purposed desk that DH and I modified:

I really think it was. It seemed to me at the time like it might have been a printer desk because of the long slots behind where a monitor would have sat, but there were keyboard trays in it originally. You can see in the pics that the left one is still there. I use it to "prop" things like quilts when I'm binding or piecing.

i would imagine you could do either way. my husband bought me a 'craft/sewing table' that has a spot in it that drops for a machine. well, it drops a little too much for my machine, so we had some 2x8 we weren't using & he cut a couple lengths for the spot, to raise up my machine. we thought i'd need 2, but one does fine. anyway, my point is, depending on your machine you currently have and the machine you'd be getting, if they're close to the same size you could have him cut it to fit both. if you're not sure, or don't think that'd work, or can't make it adjustable at all, i'd just wait and see what you get...but if they're too dissimilar, you may not be able to have him cut a one-size-hole-for-both-machines, anyway. i think it's really swell that he's making a table for you!

You could have him make the cutout hole a standard rectangle size to fit an acrylic insert. Than you can get acrylic inserts to fit both machines so you can use them both. I got an old sewing cabinet from craigslist that was made in the 80s but I got an insert to fit my machine from dreamworld (they make sew-steady tables) and it works great.

I bought a Janome MC 9700 and it came with an Arrow cabinet. It didn't fit the opening, but I was able to contact Arrow Cabinets and get a plastic insert to fit. However, I am now looking at a bigger machine, and it won't fit in the opening. I'm planning to just get another table so that I have both machines all set up and ready to work.
