www.blackhillsquilters.org.

Our show had more than 500 quilts in 2010 and we want to meet or beat that this year. If you like looking at quilts, please put yours in the show – there’s no such thing as “mine’s not good enough.”

We’re excited to welcome Elly Sienkiewicz, expert in Baltimore Album quilts. She is teaching a one-day appliqué technique class Thursday, Friday and Saturday and there are still openings. Contact Karen Lipp for price and details. Elly will sign books during our extended show hours Friday night from 5 to 7. She’ll also present the program at the banquet Saturday night.

Deadlines: All entry forms must be received by Tuesday, May 5. Forms are available on our website, in local quilt shops and from Carol Doyle (342-4126). Bring quilts to the civic center on Wednesday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pickup will be shortly after the show closes on Sunday, June 12, around 5 p.m. Quilts will not be released without claim check forms.

Set-up and Take-down: Set-up begins when quilts are turned in, Wednesday, June 8, at 10 a.m., and continues Thursday, June 9, from 9 a.m. until completed. Come help string sheets on poles and distribute, arrange and hang quilts. Help is also needed immediately after the show – this goes amazingly fast. Mary Ann Clark and Bev Peterson will be in charge.

Judged and non-judged categories: There is no fee for entries in non-judged categories. The fee for judged quilts is $10 per item for BHQG members and $15 per item for other people. Payment must be received with the entry form. Klaudeen Hansen will be our judge again this year.Viewers on Friday and Saturday will choose Best of Show and the winners in the non-judged categories. All judged and non-judged quilts are eligible for Best of Show. Winners will be announced at the banquet.

Special exhibits: Guild members’ Baltimore-style appliqué work will be displayed in honor of Elly Sienkiewicz’s visit.

BHQG Fabric Challenge: : Don’t show anyone your piece: These should be kept “secret” so voters don’t know who made which. (Names will be on them Sunday.) Return your finished project and its entry form to Laurie Widner (343-4129) by Tuesday, June 7, or bring it to the civic center Wednesday, June 8.

Awards Banquet: Your printed ticket may say it’s June 12, but it is not! The event is Saturday night, June 11, upstairs in the civic center Alpine Room. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for cash bar. The menu includes Champagne chicken and chocolate cake. Elly Sienkiewicz will present a program on Baltimore appliqué quilts, followed by the reveal of the 2012 raffle quilt and announcement of awards. Tickets are $27 and available on Tuesday workdays ,monthly meeting, in some local quilt shops, or call Rhonda Jenner (341-4497).

Vendors: Marie Brewer has assembled a variety of vendors offering just about everything a quilter could want. Booths will be open during all show hours. Get ready to shop at: ABC’s of Quilting, Alder Lake Quilt Co., Always Your Design (Gammill longarm machines), Dakota Quilt Co., Fabric Junction, Gone Sleeveless, HeartSong Quilts, Janovy Quilts (A-1 longarms), JoAnn Hoffman (APQS longarms), LaAntigua, Lickity Stitches, Martelli Enterprises, Mountain Shadow Designs, Nelson’s Wood Nook, Nuts & Bolts, Quilt Connection, The Quilt Corral, Quilt Essential, Quilter’s Corner, Real Purses, Sewing Center, Sharpener Shop, Silver Maple Quilts, The Stash Store, Trackside Quilting and Trims on Wheels.

Would love to attend. I spent the first 40 years of my life in southwestern SD. The Black Hills is a beautiful area.
