I'm orginally from the Standish area, but have lived north of Lansing for 40 years. I travel through Gladwin and they have a cute little quilt shop on the main street. Also lots of quilters that drive horse drawn buggies. That may still be too far for you, however google shops and quilters near Oscoda, you might come up with something. Used to go to the air base there for tours. Good luck
