"After the Fire" - An art quilt
#1
Hello everyone. I just finished sewing on the last bead yesterday evening. This was inspired by a painting by a friend of mine (first pic) that she did after seeing the aftermath of a bush fire whilst on holiday in Australia.
I had this beautiful piece of hand dyed fabric that I thought would be perfect for the background and I FMQd strata (adapted from Leah Day's designs) to represent the Earth, from the bottom up - pebbles for the bedrock, tree roots, the ground, tree bark, flames, leaf, smoke and a 'maelstrom' in the sky. The tree was then built up by couching on various black and grey yarns and the beads in shades of black, grey, gold and white represent the still-glowing ash and charred bits of wood.
It is 35" x 18" and it will be for sale at one point, when I can bear to part with it! :-D
