A few weeks ago I asked for advice on the board about templates. This pattern is called the Big Dipper by Lynda Hall. I was so frustrated with the outcome (highly unacceptable to me) so I decided to ask for help on the board. Thanks to everyone who could enlighten me on my inexperience with templates. The first photo is my improved knowledge (still somewhat imperfect) and the second and third are my first try. I hope when I quilt the top all of my mistakes disappear LOL I doubt it.!!

Oh, wow! What a neat block! You made it sing! I think it's perfect. Quilting will only enhance it! Make more!

That is an awesome block. Your quilt top is beautiful, no doubt about it. I love the colors. I hate working with templates, I just pass those patterns right by. Glad you stuck with it. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

I love the color scheme. Kudos to you for trying something new. Many of my favorite quilts are filled with little ooopsies. They are warm and cuddly and I don't mind sharing them with the dogs and cats. Many of my perfect quilts are packed away - to good to use - just how silly is that!

I love your fabrics. I don't know how long you've been quilting (I've only been at it for a little more than 1 yr), but it looks like not a very easy block. Beautiful job.
