Default Always wanted to make crumb blocks. These are chunk blocks.

For 17 years, I have saved all scraps from 2" square and up. Crumb blocks have always looked like fun, so I just tried some. Boy, oh boy, they ARE fun!! I used just recently made scraps on top of the pile, so it's mostly from Talk-About Books, so in strips and rectangles. The pieces are nowhere near crumb in size, so I'm making chunk blocks! I whipped nine together yesterday and cut them to 9.5". I decided to sash them with white on white to really make the block POP! It's 35" square, so perfect for my early May grandbaby (#1) to lay on for a nap. I'll quilt and bind (bright yellow) during my next break.

Here it is with a few close-ups.

The colors are so bright and using the white really sets off the blocks! Congratulations on becoming a 1st time Grandma. You will love it!

That is great. I love the way you have "grouped" your scraps.

I did group them--it was definitely not a "pull a scrap out of a paper bag and no matter what it is, sew it on" situation. LOL

I like your idea a lot - just think how much time the baby will spend looking at the blocks just to make sense of them!

Great chunk blocks! What fun quilt that will be for the baby to grow with. Love all the different fabrics. The chicken fabric is great!
