Chicago World's Fair Quilt
I made this with a fat quarter bundle I got a long time ago. It is by Nancy Gere from Windham, and it was designed in honor of the World's Columbian Exposition which officially opened in Chicago in 1892 celebrating the 400th anniversary of Columbus's voyage to the Americas. Unofficially, it was known as the Chicago World's Fair, and visitors flocked to see the wonders. The fabrics, according to the designer, were based on the Beaux Arts movement of the times, and the center squares in my blocks are prints of admission passes, postcards, and other ephemera from the fair.
I alternated Churn Dash blocks with Greek Cross blocks, and the quilt measures 68" x 80".
