the children's 1st quilts
#1
So as i mentioned i am a home school mom and the kids wanted to try and make quilts for their unit study. I am very proud of them. they picked their own fabric and drew rough sketches of what they wanted the quilts to look like. they chose colors, patterns everything. i did not let them use the rotary cutter (they are 10 and 7) but they did the rest themselves. i did the quilting and binding but they completed the tops and the end result made everyone happy. I believe these pictures were before they were quilted. Dear daughter (pink quilt) she found a UFO of mine that i started for a baby quilt and she used that as her center.

there are several flaws (um character enhancing features), in these quilts but they are well loved and a great start for forming future quilt buddies. I was surprised that my 10 year old daughter who originally had the idea seemed to get over her enthusiasm rather quickly while my 7 year old absolutely loved the entire process. the quilts have been drug around ever since and will be well loved.

Excellent! Isn't it wonderful where we can find those learning experiences?
We've discussed quilting as a possible "lesson" in mathematics and geometry. My son was more fascinated in the sewing machine as an invention so that lead down an entirely different but not unfruitful path.
It's such a privilege to teach them, isn't it?
Both quilts are spectacular!
