My brother-in-law passed away a few years ago and family finally have sold the old cottage. Found this sewing machine, don't know where to start evaluating it. Does it look familiar to anyone? Thanks for any help.

Use the number on that little gold plate at the right front and look it up at this link. http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html

Get the serial number off it and check the Singer site.

Sometimes the number is right there out in the open. Sometimes it's 'hidden' like underneath by the bobbin case.
    Get a flashlight! :)

If you give me the serial number on the base of the machine under the oval Singer emblem, I will let you know what the model and year the machine is. From the looks of the cabinet, it is about 50 - 60 years old. Or you can check the links listed above and check for yourself. She has what is referred to as a Gorilla finish. She is really nice
