You are so right that the fabric makes the pattern so different. I saved that pattern months ago and didn't even realize it. I saved it then because it was red and I thought it would be a fun quilt. This blue one has such a different feel and so comforting. I really like the blue and brown.

I love your quilt. I'm sure it gave the gentleman great comfort and now his wife. What a gift you gave.

I love the softer colours in your quilt, and can feel the warmth of the sentiment it holds for the dear lady. Thanks for caring so much for her and sharing with us.

I've had several requests and decided to post again with the corrected link. It's now on a different web site. Here's the link: http://www.quilterbydesign.com/FreeQ...s/HotFlash.pdf
The name of the pattern is Hot Flash and my quilt looks nothing like theirs. It's a good reminder that Fabric choices can change the look of a pattern. I like to look at a quilt in grey scale and it helps me think in different color ways. I often discarded a quilt pattern because of the fabric choice that didnt appeal to me. By looking at it in grey scale helps me see the possibilities.

Unfortunately, the dear man I made this for passed away in February after losing his battle to leukemia. He told me many times how much he loved this quilt. His wife is using it now and told me it gives her comfort. Thanks for your remarks in the previous post.
I could not get the link in this post to work but did find it here

Yes, different fabrics can look so unique from each other! Your choice of colors looks very good and the pattern comes through soooo good!

Lately, if I think I like a pattern, I print it in black and white with the contrast turned way down so it is just gray scale colored, then I can get out the colored pencils and felt pens and try different color ideas. Works for me. If I want to play with the colors more, I just photocopy my grayscale print so I can have extras in case I hate my first idea.
