Oh my gosh henry, that has to be the most beautiful quilt i have ever seen in my life!!!!! It is sooooo beautiful! Is it a quilt your grandma had started and given up on? I bet she was so happy to see it finished!

Very pretty quilt. Nice job Henry. You both did great work. Aren't you glad you got to finish the quilt for your grandma? Give her a big hug for me.

Yes it is one she had started but her arthritis and bad eyesight had caused her to give up on finishing it. we found it after the house fire in 2004 that destroyed her home of 30 some odd years. I finished it in late 2007. :)

My grandfather also quilted and was able to sell as many quilts as my grandma did. This was something they did together more during his retirement but they had worked on it apparently all thru their marriage.

Really, wow! You know, i like that you are doing your quilting for an important reason henry. I have an important reason too. I started learning teaching myself to quilt about 7 years ago, and three years later i was diagnosed with being in the eqarly stages on huntington's disease. And so even my sewing came to a halt for a couple years because my memory and confusion problems, and having the thinking skills to think through sewing. But a year and a half ago, i started on a trial drug for HD, and it stops brain cells from dying, and after only 3 weeks of being on memantine (memantine is used for alzheimers too), i suddenly didnt feel confused, and i was able to start sewing again. And so now that i have my gift of sewing back, and i dont know for how long, i dont want to waste this time. I have a few quilts i am trying to make for family and friends. But also, i wan to do something big this year, i'm just not sure what. I want to make some kind of quilt for raising HD awareness, and have it raffled to make money for hd research, so i kinda have some plans too, that i'm hoping to be able to do...i really admire you henry

PS how were the star pieces made? Is it appliqued onto the background, or sewn together?

Wow! I wish you much luck in your endeavor.

The stars were sewn together. Grandma did all of those and I did the rest.
