Fresh Connections quilt top finished
I decided since my Horizon hadn't come back from the checkup yet, I'd go ahead and start another one using my Janome 1600P--it didn't look too hard since it used 3.5" strips. The center wasn't as bad as I thought, but when I decided to add the on point border, it became much slower.
I had wanted to go ahead and add another row along the edge to make it a queen size, but realized that I couldn't as I didn't have enough of one of the needed fabrics (and I hate to tear something that is about done, back down when it isn't necessary), so I decided to work on a pieced border instead in order to make it larger.
(Pieced borders are one thing I want to work on this year. )
The pattern is Fresh Connections, available FREE from Windham Fabrics website here.
http://windhamfabrics.com/cgi-bin/fa...?patternID=398
BTW, they have over 30 PAGES of free patterns.
My Horizon came back today but I wanted to go ahead and finish this up using my 1600P since I've always heard esp. on a top/quilt that requires a lot of precision, to use the same machine for the whole top, if at all possible. So, I've been focusing on it today.
The colors are like on the pattern. I'd like to try it again only 1. different colors, and 2. a larger center.

Your border just makes that quilt special!
My favorite border book is "The Border Workbook" by Janet Kime
The reason I love this book is she has lots of strip pieced borders, tells you how to scale them and gives instructions for having the border fit your quilt dimensions.
You can get an inexpensive used copy of the original B&W version here, but probably will break the bank with postage.

Well, thanks for the information. At this point, I would buy it and let it wait for me to get to FL later this year. We have TWO kids getting married in the states this year, so we'll be back 2x.
