It reminds me of a Trip Around The World I made years ago with strip piecing. You sew your strips together in the sequence shown in the quilt top. Sew the pieced strips into a tube and then Cut your pieced strips into squares and then open the tube seam either one square up or down. Attach these strips together instead of piecing individual squares. Your must be careful that the tube is accurately pieced or you will get waves in your strips.
