Friendship Braid quilt in Moda "Sultry"
#1
Here are a couple of pics of a quilt I finished today for my oldest daughter, Meagan. It's done in a Friendship Braid pattern and I used Moda's "Sultry" fabric for the body of the top. I used a layer cake and sliced the 10" squares into 2.5" strips and then sliced each strip diagonally for the braid pieces, so there was no waste from each layer cake piece at all. I based this on the Friendship Braid pattern from the "Jelly Roll Quilts" book by Pam & Nicky Lintott, but altered the pattern somewhat. Instead of doing 8 rows of braids, I did 7 and made them slightly longer as a result so that the resulting quilt is more retangular than squarish like theirs was.
P.S. My daughter loves it. :)

OH MY GOODNESS - what a pretty, pretty quilt. Does your girl LOVE it or what? I want to copy it for my DD - anything else I need to know - for e.g., did you double bat it to make it look so fluffy, or just do minimalist quilting??

Eddie, I am working on the very same quilt. It will be a lap throw size. Only two of the seven braids are finished, but I don't have to have it done until Christmas. I had not decided on what the backing should be, and after seeing yours, I HAVE to have the green. Wowzers. I absolutely love the way you did the corners of the front focus border. I can only hope mine comes out as well as yours. Great job!

Thanks, everyone, I appreciate it.
I used a single layer bat of Warm & Natural cotton batting. I did stitch-in-the-ditch quilting on it, and for the inner body of it simply stictched between the 7 rows of braids, which are 6" wide each. This quilt went together really fast. I started it Thursday night and finished it this afternoon. The piecing of the braids is super easy since you're only working with 2 shapes - the left braid and the right braid, and the braids work up really quick.
