It is still a LONG way off, but I have been thinking about the label for "Danbury". I am taking my time with the sewing. "Setting" the seams with the iron, watching the 1/4 inch very carefully when I sew the HST's...things like that. Now I am thinking I could do a little better than the below for my label.

Really, I write uphill, and my handwriting would take no prizes either. Maybe I should print one from the computer?? This project will be taking me a long time and I want to do it justice.

What you can do, if you don't have or want to machine embroidery one, is to print one out on your computer using the fabric sheets. I still do this sometimes and you can really put a lot on them; import pictures; do different colors; etc.

I don't care for my own handwriting, so I will be doing mine on the computer. One think I can suggest for handwriting them is to draw some straight lines with a sharpie on a piece of cardboard and put it behind your fabric. You should be able to see the lines through it and keep your text straighter. My mom did that with plain pads of paper when I was a girl.

Are you still in Attleboro? I was born there and lived on Commonwealth Ave. until I was a teen!

I liked the label you made - very folk-artsy and very personal. It also had the important info included.

No, Katier, I am in Oklahoma now. I sure miss New England. I grew up in Rehoboth, but lived in Attleboro from from 97 to 07. We lived on George St.

I think your label is charming. Can you imagine how cool it would be to have a 100+ year old quilt with a label like that? Just because we have the technology doesn't mean we should always use it. JMHO

Thanks, FF. That was the push I needed. I love the fabric that I use for labels, plus I am not sure it would go through Jim' printer. Katier gave me a hint to help my printing. I have seen so many lovely labels here, I was beginning to think mine were kind of yucky.

I agree while a computerized label can be really neat - used them myself, there's nothing like a personal handwritten, albeit uphill, label... love it!

If I inherited a quilt, that someone was taking the time and care to create such as you are, I would love it to have a handwritten label  :D 8)
