All great ideas! I would make a wall hanging and donate it to the school, myself.

I like the tote idea! That way it would be less chance of having to cut too much of the fabric

I think a wall hanging for a local school would be wonderful. How about making a center block to look like the school crossing sign with the focus fabrics added into blocks around it. Or even other blocks done is same style as the school crossing sign, such as one showing kids on the playground, someone at a chalkboard or reading. Things where teasing or bullying might happen.
