This is a beautiful start. I love purples too; and want to make a Bargello, but I'm too chicken to start with it.

I promise, if I can do it, anyone can. I started with Eileen Wright's book Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts. There are ten patterns in the book, and I wanted to do Surf Song...but first I followed the author's suggestion and made a place mat. She has designed that placemat to teach someone how to organize a Bargello, and the instructions are very detailed. Once I had done that, I had the confidence to start the Surf Song, though it took me a long time to figure out the fabrics I wanted. Folks on this board were so helpful throughout the whole process.

My message is to go for it if you really want to do one, cause if I can do it, anyone can.

I am also intimidated by fabric selection, but I do think you have hit it dead on. That will be so pretty and please be sure to share the finished project.
