Lovely quilt!
I do sometimes nudge my needle over a bit for SID. I use monofilament thread on top but not on the bottom. I might hesitate to use it even on top for a baby quilt, though, because I think it feels a little scratchy.
Baby is going to love this!

I use the YLI brand of invisible thread with a cotton thread 50 wt. in the bobbin. It can still be seen a little if I jog up on top of the ditch. That is when the little permanent pen come in to play. Also I too spread the seam as others have said. When the quilt is then washed I'm usually happy with the results.

When I first started quilting I had an older lady who was selling her quilt shop tell me that SITD is the hardest way of quilting there is. So I took her at her word and I try not to do it. Although I was recently making a purse for my daughter and she wanted SITD. I did it. It looks okay, but I went really really slow.

Another note on this quilt. The open area on the far right was supposed to have appliqué letters. The original quilt said "daddy's little girl" but we were going to do "tater tot" since dad's nickname is Tater. I chickened out on the appliqué because we've never done it before and I didn't want to mess up a gift quilt. We are really going to have to expand our skill set!
