Both look great---just depends on what overall design you are looking for. The floating blocks seem to have more movement and dimension, whereas the others have a nice 3D effect without the "movement" element.

I have to agree with you. The shadowing on the left looks better. Both styles of the shadow are unique. The floating illusion is really cool and makes the mind bend a little more.

I am in agreement with the first one audience response, but either look is perfect, depending on what effect you wish to see.

They are all great, but the last one with the angles makes it look more 3D
