I like that pattern--and have purchased a book to help me with one...some day.

The center square of the nine patch will become your corner stones, the patches at 12,3,6,9 positions will create sashing.
This is one of the reasons J made a practice block ... when you start a new technique, create a small sample and mess with it to see what it looks like in different positions.
