One pattern, two completely different looks

I told my friend Martina that I wanted to learn to applique; she sent me some books and after reading them decided to jump right in. The batik runner was my first attempt at machine applique (prob shouldn't have chosen circles LOL). While working on this one, I kept thinking it might make a nice Christmas runner and that is the second one I did. They really are square-the wind was blowing pretty hard when we took pictures.
