Mother in Law's quilt finally finished!
This quilt top was finished in February but it has taken me all year to find time to finish it and she probably won't get it until the day after Christmas. I decided to try hand quilting and it was very difficult for me because I need a lot more practice. I drew heart shapes in the vertical sashing and loop de loops in the horizontal sashing. On the bottom right of the quilt I made a mistake when sewing on my binding to the back and it left a hole so I decided to make a tag to cover the hole and then embroidered the date on the tag with the words "with love" so I used it to serve as my quilt label even though it is on the front and upside down (live and learn). I used a tutorial for disappearing nine patch that I found on You Tube somewhere but I didn't orient all of my disappearing patches exactly the same way. In the picture it looks crooked on the bottom but it was the camera angle, the blowing wind, and bad timing.

White yardage
Pink Yardage
Backing:
I didn't take a picture of it but it was a good quality off white sheet I bought from Tuesday Morning.
Binding:
White yardage and a random pink print I found in my stash. Both were already cut to 2 1/2 inches so I decided to use them by cutting them into 12" strips, piecing them together, and using them.
I used a straight stitch to attach my binding to the back with my machine and a zigzag stitch to attach it when I folded it over. My bobbin thread became unthreaded numerous times and I had to re-thread it correctly in the bobbin case. I don't know what causes that to happen but it sure makes my zig-zag look terrible because then I try and line it back up so that it matches and oh, what a mess. Anyway, my MIL is not a quilter so I doubt she will notice it as a flaw.
Quilting:
I used my machine, Singer Simple 3116, to machine quilt an "X" across each disappearing nine patch square, and then horizontally, and vertically across the square. I used Coats and Clark Tatting-Crochet multi-colored thread that I found at a garage sale for the hand quilted hearts and loops.
I wish I had taken better pictures but I was in a rush to the Post Office. I hope you like it. As an afterthought I wish I had quilted the border too.
