Default First painted quilt, and first McTavishing

I took craftsy's painted quilt class, and I could not be more pleased with the class project. I love this quilt!

I highly recommend the quilting classes over there, if anyone hasn't taken one. I've done a TON, and they have all been greated (I have mixed feelings about the sewing classes though.)

Wow. This is stunning. I'm partial to calla lilies anyway. I'm sure I could find some wall space to display this one for you!

That's wonderful. Just today I was thinking about this kind of quilts, got an email from Martingale about a book dealing with this artform. I wasn't too sure about it but seeing yours convinced me! So when I finished all my other projects (or at least a few of them) I might start trying painting quilts too.
Your McTavishing looks gorgeous! I need to practice a lot more before even thinking of trying that.
    Thanks very much for sharing.

I do a lot of painting but have never painted a quilt. After seeing your beautiful work I think I will give it a try. Your quilting is so good, you did a wonderful job.

The thing the instructor said would be different for people with painting experience (I have none) is that colors need to be well mixed in the wells. You don't have enough time on the quilt to get the colors to really blend together- it absorbs too quickly, even with floating medium. I guess painters don't always stir their colors up all the way?
