Thumbs up My Grandsons learning to sew

My grandson, Dane, now 6 is fascinated with my sewing machine. Every time he comes he checks out my sewing room. I had leftover strips and showed him how to sew them together. I put the speed at slow and he had the most wonderful time sewing. His brother Preston, 8 also wanted to sew. They each made a John Deere pillow case and were very proud of their work.

They look like they are having fun. It's a good skill to have! Thanks for teaching them.

Learning to sew is very helpful: teaches math, design and art, develops hand-eye coordination, patience and persistence...not mention the creative juices! Special "quilting" words are a later skill..LOL!

That looks like my sewing room...minus the kids, of course.

Yes, kids do enjoy learning to sew, even boys. I've started two nephews and a niece on their way into the sewing world, and I hope they keep it up for their lives. But whether they do or not, they'll have memories!

I think that's wonderful. My MIL taught my DH to sew when he was young and now he repairs his own clothes when needed. In fact I have a quilt on my machine right now that I'm trying to quilt and he wants to know when I will be done so he can use the machine. LOL. I might have to find another machine for him.
