I was just going over a video tutorial I made years ago of how to make a Cathedral Window block and of course a nice heavy quilt. I discovered that I could not upload the video here it is way outdated in its format and needs to be reworked for today's software and usage. It is going to take me weeks to get it done.
Anyway I was going through another scrap bin to pull out some 2 1/2" squares for this project and came across enough pieces, in a bag, for a complete Dresden Plate quilt! I must have cut the pieces 20 years ago and never looked back. I made 2 Dresden Plate quilts at that time and I must have been thinking about a third one. I guess I never thought of cut pieces as a UFO. Not a stitch was sewn on this project. I also found hexagon cuts for another Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. The same thing just the cuts and not a stitch. I am sure they are left over from the King size GMG I made years ago that is in them profile pic. There has to be a good 1000 hexi's!

I have made 3 different Cathedral Windows quilts over time. All 3 were made by hand. Two Queen and one King size. So as I rework the tutorial I am making changes that will be machine worked for the base of the block while the colorful part of the window will still need hand stitched. The new process will allow for a stronger block less likely to come apart in time. It will also allow for a quicker assembly time and less stress on our hands.
For many it is considered one of the most difficult quilt patterns to make. For me it is a breeze. Once I get this new tutorial finished I hope everyone finds it to be a breeze. The one shown here was a WIP at the time I took the pic. Completed it was a Queen Size quilt.

With the adjustment I am making to my piecing the block I was able to complete a block in about 1 to 1 1/2 hour. I had to stop and take new pics for the tutorial along the way. Of course hand stitching always takes a bit longer.

I really like your quilt. Everyone must do a few cathedral blocks in their quilting life. It is good for the quilter's soul.

I had a lot of fun making this cathedral window, during my Red Hatter days The friend I gifted it to always has it displayed across the bottom of her bed. I think the blocks were 3 or 3.5". it isn't finished here, you can see there are areas that haven't been uncovered yet.

There is an older tutorial by eddie (a board member) that everything is done by machine in the tutorials section here on the board. I am not sure it would help you, but, maybe?

I have always wanted to make a Cathedral window quilt. I just haven't done it yet. I remember the tutorial Eddie did years ago and was going to follow it. He was a master at sewing and quilting.
