I have been making some back packs that I learned about on the Fons and Porter QNN site. I am using one of them when I walk to the grocery store with the dog so I have may hands free. I am in a block swap on another website and have a lot of 6 1/2" blocks to play with. These backpacks go together very fast and are comfortable and big enough to carry the equivalent of several plastic grocery bags and can be washed and dried if ever they need it. I also use them for overnight bag insteade of a suitcase when I go away for a week.

opening. I am now putting inside pockets and outside pockets on the ones I am making now.

I made some of the backpack for my daughters for their birthdays and now all my granddaughters want them too.

Backpacks made with prequilted material, They go together a lot faster. LOL.

Barb, how do you decide on the strap length, or is there a length adjuster on the straps? They look so nice :)

OMG those are too cute! My GD desperately wanted to make a backpack with me but I had no idea how to start one, and with two younger ones running around I was not up to the concentration necessary. I would love to make one of these for her. I looked up the Fons & Porter website and only found that the instructions are in the Mar/April 05 issue. I'm not likely to find that around here!! Did you find a more recent pattern?

Barb, they are all so cute! You have done a great job. I can see why your granddaughters want them too. The two you show on the chairs remind me of Vera Bradley bags.

Fons and Porter suggested making them 45" + 23" long. They are made out of the quilted material and joined together with a 45 degree angle seam.
