About 30 years ago my mom hand made a quilt for my oldest daughter. She was just 2 years old. She used it for 10 years. Lots of loving and washing. When she tried to pack it away my youngest daughter asked to use it and she used it for 15 years. It was her blankie. She loved it. Again lots of loving and washing. It became threadbare and very worn so she packed it away to try to selvage what was left of it. Six years later my dear grand daughter was looking through the closet for a "nice warn blanket" and out of all the wonderful blankets pulled out the threadbare quilt and claimed it as her own. I wanted to try to repair it but both daughters want it as is because grandma is gone now and her lovely stitches are still there even if the fabric is gone. That's when I decided to start quilting because I hope someone will love my quilts as much as my dear daughters love my moms. Here is what is left of that quilt.

It has seen many many years of loving!!! No one in my family ever quilted, that I know of. I wish I could have a treasure like that to save!!! My children and future Grandchildren should have lots of my quilts to love to death!!!

A wonderful story and a wonderful quilt. I too quilt for those reasons. What mark am I going to leave in this world? Some pictures? My dishes and furniture? I want something of ME left to my children and grandchildren. I hope they love the utility quilts until they are falling apart and cherish the special ones.

That is a beautiful story, littlehud. Your mom was a true quilter. So glad that that quilt has had a live of love. I too want that for my quilts, to be loved threadbare! When quilts are made with love, they should be loved their whole lives!

Oh, what a heartwarming story! I loved it! My great-grandma, grandma, mom, aunts, sister, cousins, second cousins and even my 6 yr. old neice all have quilted or presently quilt. I don't think anyone in my family can escape it! It is a wonderful thing to hold my (great-grandma) Nanny's quilt and know that she has been gone for over 10 years, but I still have something that she made with her own hands. I would bet you that someday someone in your family will be feeling the same way!!
