I have some gorgeous Kona Bay fabric I purchased to make a OBW, but wanted to make a practice one first. Learned a couple of things. In the book the author states that you should construct the hexes with the straight grain of the fabric to the outside. I was trying to make them all pretty so I didn't do this. You really can't pick out individual hexes in the final product and the ones made like she suggested were easier to work with, so that's what I'll do in the 'real' one. Also, it really does help to put the hexes on a vertical display board. Duh. I used a table and as soon as I was done piecing the top and hung it up, I saw that I should have moved a couple. Need to figure out how to get a work surface up somewhere.
The back of the quilt was made from left over hexes. I have posted this before, but if you do OBWs or just like kalidescope quilts, see if you can locate a copy of Sara Nephews "Doubledipity: more serendipity quilts" she has dozens of patterns you can make from your left over hexes.
The quilt is 36 X 42. Thanks for looking.
