I finally gave in and ordered the OBW book. Along with some rulers. I got one ruler yesterday, now patiently waiting for the book. Your quilt is georgous, and I can't wait to try it. I just need to find a fabric. Any suggestions or tips for picking one out?

Beautiful work. Love the fabric that you used and love the back side too.

Did you state "PRACTICE" quilt? Pardon my astonishment as I am new. You put together whole quilts, not just blocks, but whole quilts for practice or for auditioning fabric? I am totally amazed. That quilt would be done and ready to be wrapped for it's intended if it was at my house. And now you'll make another just like it?

I will never be good at this. I do not have time or patience for practice quilts, much less blocks.

The book will give you lots of tips. Also, Cutebuns, on this board, has posted several times re: OBW. Here are 2 on fabric choices:

Beautiful! I really like what you've done on the back of the quilt, this quilt could easily be reversible or made into two quilts, nice work!!

This is only my 7th quilt, so I need the practice ;-) I've never done blocks with lots of bias, never pieced a backing and I also got to practice my FMQ. The fabric I used was an inexpensive remnant from my LQS, and the black was a left over. The fabric I got for the 'real' one was pricey. It has a large repeat, so I needed like 6 yards. Before I cut into it I wanted to make sure that I liked the general design. Trust me, this one will be going to someone for Christmas. I can't believe I already have a gift for this year! I'm a real procrastinator. (sp?)

I think I like the back almost as much as the front.
