Day one and day 10 206 pieces later

I have started a monster. wanting a 62 inch x 62 inch snuggle couch quilt for myself. Found this on an avitar and liked it.. the example was a beautiful blue. I am using fussy cuts on scraps. 206 pieces later and now where near the size ! 21 x 19 and irregular shape at that ! I need encouragement !!

All "sides" of diamonds and hexagons are one inch.

Day one and Day 10.

Hand sewn, right? It's beautiful and doesn't look wonky. I've never dared tackle this type of project. My daughter is sewing hexagons by hand and is enjoying it. I hope you keep at it until you finish. I also like how you showed your day one/day ten progress. I'll watch for your day 20! :D

vanginney 08-23-2012 09:29 PM

Wow! Enough said.

Nexxus831 08-23-2012 09:29 PM

SassySewer53 08-23-2012 09:33 PM

That is really pretty! It looks like a Rolling Star. I have made Rolling Stars before. Fun to do, but sometimes challenging. You are doing a great job with this one, and cannot wait until you finish.

blahel 08-23-2012 10:53 PM

i love the fabrics you are using. Keep going as it will be a beautiful quilt and you will enjoy snuggling under it!

Pepita 08-23-2012 11:21 PM

I've been down a long road of not feeling great. One of the first stages was that it hurt terribly to lift my arms. I thought my days of quilting were over. But I can be stubborn too. So I decided to hand join baby blocks (another Y seam) I also hand quilted it. The years have changed my moans and groans, but I've stopped telling myself I can't do it. It may take longer, but I know we can both do it!

Anael 08-23-2012 11:22 PM

It's beautiful!

Its going to be beautiful!

sinceresissy 08-24-2012 03:52 AM

what is quilt patis? I think it is amazing that anyone can sew these smaller pieces and have them look so good. This is a wonderful project. I think it will look so good when you are done. It looks good now.

jillnjo 08-24-2012 04:04 AM

I love what you are doing!! I think there is a lot of satisfaction in hand work and projects that seem slow going. Our grandmothers would have thought nothing of time-consuming projects like this one. We buy up gorgeous fabrics so fast and can't find the time to make them into machine sewn simple quilts!! I have a quilting frame and love to hand quilt, but I keep feeling like it's gonna take so long to complete, but why does it matter? It's my hobby and what I love! Enjoy piecing your blocks together and you'll love it when it is completed.

sue1964 08-24-2012 04:10 AM

itwrx4me 08-24-2012 04:54 AM

It looks wonderful so far! Better you than me - I just can't seem to work with such small pieces unless it is paper pieced! LOL

kateyb 08-24-2012 05:19 AM

I think that is going to turn out beautiful. Don't give up. I have a hand piecing project I work on when we travel. It just takes time and patience.

I think you stated that perfectly. We are all in a rush, but unless we are working on a present for someone, who cares how fast it gets done. It should be about the process of doing what we love just as much as the finished projects. I enjoy having a long time consuming project that I can work on. That way I can work on it a little at a time as I feel like it and there is no rush to get it done.

madelinkk 08-24-2012 11:21 AM

Keep going. It is too beautiful to give up. Remember to pace yourself-piece one hour_rest one hour. We ate all behind you!

117becca 08-24-2012 11:39 AM

Yes, yes, & more yes! This is beautiful & I certainly admire your skill & determination! I can't wait to see this done (that's as close as I'll ever get to one since I'm too dumb & impatient to make one myself... LOL!).

Babs194068 08-24-2012 12:04 PM

that is beautiful

rootyr 08-24-2012 02:21 PM

It is going to be gorgeous!!

angiecub 08-24-2012 05:04 PM

I think it's looking great. You're doing a great job hand piecing. There's nothing as special as an old fashioned, hand pieced quilt. Can't wait to see it done. And by the way, it doesn't look wonky at all.

Mariposa 08-24-2012 05:12 PM

Wow! You've done great so far! You are making good progress, and I look forward to seeing more! :)
