Some one in his family made it. No other details. He is a man of few words.

Scakes 04-13-2012 04:31 AM

Sorry I can't help you. It looks like a nice quilt. Hope you get some help with the pattern name.

Homespun 04-13-2012 04:49 AM

I don't have a clue! Pretty quilt.

erstan947 04-13-2012 05:01 AM

beautiful quilt.....and nicely done. I don't think I have ever seen this pattern. I'll be watching to see if anyone knows the name.

burchquilts 04-13-2012 05:03 AM

It looks familiar but I can't think of the name. Maybe it doesn't really have one -- maybe his family member just made it up. So I say make up a name. And p. s... I love it & wish I did know the name of it so I could make one! Write up a tutorial?

Mona Marie 04-13-2012 05:08 AM

It kind of looks like a signature quilt except that the colored should be the lighter color, and people then sign it.

quilter68 04-13-2012 05:21 AM

Mona Marie, I think you are right. The original pattern may have been for signatures BUT this one is a jewel of a quilt. Perhaps just using up scraps.

Calicocat, this is a beautiful quilt and for whomever....A family treasure!

XYZ123 04-13-2012 05:24 AM

What a great way to use scraps. This is a lovely quilt.

Pam Riggs 04-13-2012 05:39 AM

I absolutely love this quilt. Has a country look to it.

NIICHMOM 04-13-2012 05:45 AM

check out the Slanted Diamond Pattern don't remember who's pattern it is though

kateyb 04-13-2012 05:46 AM

This is a very nice quilt. It wouldn't be very hard to make a pattern for this. I don't recall ever seeing that particular design before. It would be a great signature quilt with the lights and darks reversed.

It looks similar to slanted diamonds. http://www.quilterscache.com/S/Slant...ondsBlock.html . but that pattern is made with HSTs, so not quite the same.
I love the quilt. It reminds me a little bit of sticks of gum :)

Teddybear Lady 04-13-2012 10:54 AM

I don't know a name for this pattern but I love the look. It's another way to use up scraps I guess.

quiltingcurious 04-13-2012 11:04 AM

Quite unique, didn't have geometry or I'd know the name of the two triangles that sandwich the, don't know the name of the rectangle either that is angled out on each end! Someone that has a math brain or teaches math should know. Help!!!!

Hemlock Tea 04-13-2012 11:22 AM

It is a scalene right triangle- scalene= all sides are different lengths; right because it has a right (90 degree) angle.

Isosceles has two equal sides and equilateral has three equal sides.

And the four sided shape in the center is a parallelogram- opposite sides are parallel to each other like a rectangle, but it has no right angles.

peaceandjoy 04-13-2012 11:23 AM

The triangles are right triangles, b/c of the 90 degree angle at the corner... The other pieces is a parallelogram as the sides are parallel.

It's a lovely quilt. He's fortunate to have it!

Rebecca VLQ 04-13-2012 12:04 PM

I really like that a lot! :D

QUILTNMO 04-13-2012 12:06 PM

dont know the name but its very nice!!!

EvelynJ 04-13-2012 03:09 PM

I went to Google and did not find anything like this pattern. I don't believe the Slanted Diamond Pattern is the pattern. But I love this quilt. If anyone decides to make a pattern or knows the name please PM me as I would love a copy. This would be a great Man Cave quilt.

luce321 04-13-2012 03:15 PM

Sorry, can't help you, but it is a very nice quilt. I am sure I have never seen this pattern before.

ube quilting 04-13-2012 03:25 PM

This is a fabulous quilt. No clue as to a pattern name. The picture really shows the talent of the maker. It is brilliant.
If DH can't give you any infomaybe there is someone else in his family you could ask. I think you have a treasure in this one. Alot of people are going to want to copy this one and I'm one of them. Thanks for posting.
peace

Hemlock Tea 04-13-2012 03:35 PM

Can you measure the block size? I might be able to draft something up this weekend.

Nettie Phillips 04-13-2012 05:37 PM

Sorry I can't help but it is very pretty.

momto5 04-13-2012 06:16 PM

Looks a little like a chevron....

scraphq 04-13-2012 06:52 PM

You can use the right angle ruler from the "Tri-Recs" tool set to draft this design. (This design is not shown in the design booklet that comes with the tools). Or, very simply, draw a square, any size you like. Mark the center of opposite sides. Then, looking at picture of quilt draw parallel lines from corner to center marks. Design made. Don't forget to add seam allowances when mking your pattern pieces. P.S., don'y know of a name for this design.

mighty 04-13-2012 07:24 PM

I have no idea, it is really pretty!!!!!

juneeloonee 04-14-2012 02:21 AM

Great pattern. Easily drafted:
- if you want to make a 4 inch square, draw a 4 inch square and measure on two opposing sides a point at the 2 inch mark; then draw a line from one half way point to the opposite corner and the opposite 2 inch point to the other corner. Add your quarter inch cutting line all around and you have two templates as the light blue ones in the quilt are the same.
- if you want to make a 6 inch square, draw a 6 inch square and measure on two opposing sides a point at the 3 inch mark; then draw a line from one half way point to the opposite corner and the opposite 3 inch point to the other corner. Add your quarter inch cutting line all around and you have two templates, as the light blue ones in the quilt are the same.
- if you wish to make anything bigger just use the same ratio.
Beautiful heirloom. Good luck all!

catladyquilts 04-14-2012 03:03 AM

don't know the name of the pattern but it reminds me of one of the older autograph quilt blocks

whinnytoo 04-14-2012 04:42 AM

what a GREAT quilt!!! thanks for sharing

Yooper32 04-14-2012 05:43 AM

I sure don't know, but it makes a really neat quilt and the secondary pattern is interesting.

damaquilts 04-14-2012 05:48 AM

I have no idea of a name but it looks simple enough Cut a rectangle, slice it cattycorner and add a strip of fabric at an angle .. Well I know what I mean. LOL, Then I would just cut it down to the size I wanted the block

I cannot measure it, The quilt picture is from a friend in Tenn and the picture was sent to him by a relative living I don't know were. But I bet you could do it anyway.

You know as soon as I read your answer I said to myself, Self that is exactly what it is, a signature quilt made with scraps. Thanks a ton. I will be posting another quilt from another friend today. I must look like the quilt block expert! HA.

Sewflower 04-14-2012 08:35 AM

Just finished blocks similar for a signature quilt for family reunion. We each took a 6 in piece of muslin and attached charms (5 in) on opposing end and sewed on the diagonal. Easy peasy for everyone to do. Would post pics but sent blocks to sister who will do all the assembly.

charismah 04-14-2012 08:48 AM

I think it looks great! But I think this can easily be made by sewing three strips togetherand taking say like an x-block ruler and cutting them at an angle. then you have your slant but also a straight block..if that makes sense? It's the same technique as the lil twister.

roseirish48 04-14-2012 08:50 AM

per Maggie Malone's book "1001 Patchwork Designs" the quilt pattern is called Streak of Lightning 1

I did this on EQ7 and it looks like yours. This may show up twice because I don't know what I'm doing or trying to figure it out. Love the quilt
