So I finished this mariners compass about three years ago. It's been framed and hanging above our tv for about two years. The other night I was absent-mindedly looking at it, and it dawned on me that one point is backwards...danggit!
DOH!! |
Wouldn't have even noticed it, if you hadn't have said something! It is gorgeous! I would keep it hanging, nobody else will notice, besides, you can always say you did it on purpose!
It took me a long time to find the "backward" point. Wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out. It's lovely! :-D
No you did that on purpose to see if anyone would catch it  Very clever
Had to seaarch awfully hard to find it!
Or you could tell anyone that asks that is how you knew it was the bottom of the star  Love it
Wow I'd never have noticed. Its beautifal.
You are suppose to do that on every quilt. I have a wall hanging that I did in the early 90s. I just noticed a quilting mistake on mine too. LOL
If you haven't noticed it before now, it is ok. Looks great to me, I would have never noticed. Someday I may take it down and fix it, but probably not. |
had to look twice to see it - leave it - looks good!! :)
OMG!!!! I would tear it all apart and start over!!!!!!
Just kidding!!!  Leave it!! I had to look for it!!! |
Too funny. I would just pretend I did it on purpose.
its beautiful love it like it is,. sometimes we are our own worst critic
I did the same thing on my first Mariner's compass block LMBO It is so pretty that no one else will ever notice it!!!
I had to hunt for it too, and that's only because you said one of the points was backwards. You're the only one to notice it.
   That sounds like something I would do. If you didn't mention it...who would notice? I love it just the way it is. :-D
Gosh, I am so proud of me. I found it. It took about 15 minutes but I looked and looked and looked. I have never done one of these and when I couldn't see anything out of order I thought it was something I would know if I knew the pattern or were a more experienced quilter. It isn't something the eye would notice without a lot of concentration time. Bet no one ever notices it. I wouldn't have and I do like the wall hanging. I think your work is great.
Geeze, I still can't find it!! Leave it be, it is beautiful!
I love it! You did a great job!
It happens.
There are no "mistakes" in quilting....just creative expression!
It is beautiful and if you had not said anything we would not seen it (very hard to find) |
If you would have said nothing, I would never have noticed.
After you mentioned it, I had to look and look before I spotted it. |
Can't see, who's going to notice? You didn't
I live near a Amish community and they always put something in wrong, because we are not all perfect. So I just say I meant to do that.
That is too funny!!! Don't the Amish always put an error in their quilts because nobody is supposed to be perfect? You can't tell on this unless you hunt for it.

I was always told that only God makes things perfect. We just have to keep trying!
It is still fabulous! And who would notice unless you tell them.
I was looking in one of my quilt books today and noticed one of the quilts has 2 blocks that have a 4 patch turned wrong. Oops! Nobody noticed before they published the book. |
I had to search for it. Remember Where's Waldo? LOL
I had to really search to find it . Leave it, God is perfect, we arent.
i cant see it! :)
I love that block! So very pretty and the type of block I want to learn eventually. If it's been hanging there for 2 years already, probably most everybody you have over to your house has already been there. If they haven't noticed it by now, they probably aren't going too. It's really not that noticeable if you aren't specifically looking for it.
I would just leave it and be very proud of it! |
Had to really look for it.
Fools the eye. Leave it. |
I never would have noticed it! Now it has more character!
The same thing happened to me--it's been on the wall for over a year--I've taken photos of it--walked by it so many times..and finally noticed one square is turned. It drove me nuts for about 3 minutes, then I realized nothing can be done now--so I'm fine. |
Thankfully, I am ok with it. I laughed and laughed when I saw it. It was like, "Hey Hun...I did a point backwards...did you ever notice that?" I love the block anyhow.
And for all those who want to try it....DO IT! It is crazy easy. It is paperpieced so it's tough to get it wrong! My plan was to do a whole couch throw with this, have all the fabric...still in the tote! :) My Mom loves it and I will be making her one soon for her wall. Trying to decide if I should accidently-on purpose put a point backwards to see how long it will take HER to notice!! Hee Hee! Thanks guys! |
I wouldn't have worries, had to start at the center and work my out before I could find what you were talking about.
I read somewhere that a well known quilter, and I don't remember who, always made a "mistake". She thought it gave the quilts a handmade charm and challenged people to find it. So, you're in good company! And it's beautifil!
Well I don't think you can possibly live with it. Take it down immediately and send it to me.
Rita |
I still can't see it and I keep looking.
I had the hardest time finding it! You silly woman!! It's gorgeous and one of my favorite blocks of all time!! :D
Remember the old days- women would purposely make one block "wrong" b/c "only God is perfect". I love your work. |
if you didn't mention it, i'd never have noticed. looks pretty dern awesome to me
