Looking for 2nd (and 3rd and 4th and ...) opinions

I'm making this quilt for my niece who's having her first child. I did these wonky log cabin blocks with jungle animal centers, and decided on the layout with rows of matching "banners". But it seemed like it needed to be taller than it was wide. Do you like the striped fabric at the bottom?
I like it. Seems to work just fine. Terrific quilt, lucky baby.
I loveit! It actually goes with the zebras at the top. Don't take it off! It goes together perfectly. You are good!
i like the fabric, but i would have divided it and put some on the top and some on the bottom... it just seems too bottom heavy
Nancy, you know that was my original thought, too, but I just didn't like it. Not sure why. I could make the bottom section smaller ... it's 8.5 inches. I was going to do 6, but that didn't seem like enough.
I also thought of putting a different fabric on the top. I have some fabric that looks like the orange-on-orange of the giraffe (but larger scale). |
I concur,
Maybe take a 1/4 off the bottom and add it to the top to help with the heaviness.

I love the bottom fabric - it looks almost like fringe. I love the whole thing, think it is just darn cute
My first thought was to split the stripes between top and bottom to even it out, and maybe even a thin strip of stripes on the sides to "end" it with an irregular border (ie thicker on top and bottom, thin on sides)

I agree with QuiltnNan. It is a beautiful quilt--very creative, but I would evenly divide the striped fabric. Doesn't have to be on top and bottom, could go on top and bottom of animal border rows too.
I, too, think it needs to be divided in some way. It just looks tacked on to me. Of course, keep in mind I do not have a creative bone in my body! |
yes i like it much better its still a cute quilt
I agree! Even amounts on top & bottom. Great quilt!

Cute quilt and cute fabrics.
I like the stripe at the bottom and I would appliqué the child's name there. Great top!
At first I thought the first picture was too bottom heavy, and when I saw the second picture, I liked it better. Then........I went back and looked at the first picture, and find I like them both. Whatever you decide, it will be a great quilt. The design of the quilt is so special, and you have used some really great fabrics and colors that are well balanced, so the finished product will be awesome regardless of any changes made. Nice work too!
I like the striped fabric on top and bottom. It makes it look finished.
I like the striped fabric on the top and the bottom (your second version)
Really cute quilt :) |
Do you have another row of animals? I think I would leave the animals (Zebras) as the first row, use the stripes for the next-to-last row, then add a row of animals (Monkeys or something) for the last row. It would balance the wide and narrow rows better. I don't care for adding stripes at the top, but it just looks too added on at the bottom and needs a a narrow row of something, preferably animals or jungle print, to finish it. Its a really cute quilt. That's my two cents worth! LOL

Hope you leave it the first version. It makes it so nicely exotic & goes with the animals on the quilt. Be sure to let us know what you do. I think it is so unique.

I like the thought of another row of animals or something to split the strips! embroidered or applique baby's name!
Awesome quilt! I love the idea and I'm sure I had it first....hahahaha!!! |
Yes love it.

Edit: Lots of opinions for the stripe, that will teach me to read it all before I post!!! :) |
I like this much better!
Very cute quilt, however you finish it. I love the wonky blocks!
I agree about using it on the top and bottom both. I wouldn't use any less than 1/3 of it on the top or it still looks too bottom heavy.
Looks great. I love it.

I agree with QuiltnNan. Equal stripes top & bottom.
Forgot to add, very cute quilt! :)
Like the 2nd picture...... It looks more balanced.. Hope to see it when you finish
I lke how you balance out the quilt in the second picture. Beautiful.
Very pretty quilt! You did a good job! I like the stropes on the top and bottom better, but I think the stripes on the bottom needs to be less, so that it balances everything out. I also think it would be nice if you had a row of animals with the bottom stripe.
Yes I really do!
I like the idea someone had of doing the babies name in applique on the bottom stripe. Then the bottom stripe has a purpose.
I love it's uniqueness just the way it is, but I do love the idea of adding a name on the bottom, and that creating it's special purpose.
