My Batik Quilt
1 Attachment(s)
It's not finished but I wanted to share. Maybe get an opinion or two. :)
I cut out the quilt - thinking if I liked it I would add to it and make it bigger. Well, I cut it out wrong and I'm not sure how hard it will be to follow the pattern now and make it bigger. I have plenty of fabric and I am seriously considering completely starting over and just using this as a lap size quilt - probably as a gift. Would you start over or try to enlarge this one? |
Really pretty! How much bigger do you need it? I think it would look cool to add the brick shapes, kind of like a large piano key border all around the perimeter. I would use the same size black in between the body of the quilt and the piano keys.
I think it is beautiful and whatever you do, it is going to be wonderful. I don't see what you did wrong. Can't you just add more rows to it? What do I know?? Show us what you come up with because the fabric is just outstanding, and I love the stained-glass look.
We have a king size bed. :-( So it would have to be a LOT bigger. LOL.
I like your idea of the piano keys border. I think I'll do that. Thanks a bunch. |

I would add more to this one, it is beautiful. I really like the gold color, makes everything pop
I would add on to that one. It is easy to see where the block is, so try to figure if it will work by adding a row of blocks, one way or both directions? if not maybe you can make it bigger by adding the black all the way around and a border of one of those gorgeous batiks
It is really beautiful! Maybe you did not follow directions but it worked!!!!!!
It's really pretty..
Beautiful fabric choices. Adding borders as suggested is a good option to make it bigger. Looking forward to seeing the finished project.
Looks great! You can certainly enlarge this one or start over. You clearly do quality work, so either way you will have a lovely finished product.
Love it !!!
it looks great. it depends whether you want another quilt with the same pattern as this one... for me, i only like one of any particular pattern.
I like it,beautiful colors. I agree with adding a row and then the piano border.
Lovely quilt. Really like the stained glass effect.
Wow....love your batiks!!!
Beautiful quilt ... fabulous color combinations! IMHO adding a row or two using same fabrics will keep the same theme, then add the piano key border.
Beautiful job, thank you for sharing, I would continue adding to it
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
I love your quilt, the 5 colors are gorgeous. I like the idea of a piano keys border. Please post a picture when it is finished.
Love it!
If it were mine, I'd add a wide strip, maybe 10-12". Then create the blocks again adding enough to make it the size you want. Don't stop, it's beautiful!! |
This is really pretty!! I'd suggest that you add on to this. :)
This is beautiful! Like tartan's idea to enlarge
Add 2 more of the middle strip. Put one on each side of the current top. If you need to add more then work with borders.
Absolutely love your color choices...beautiful quilt :)
Keep going!!! Its beautiful!
I would go ahead and make it bigger. You should be able to figure the pattern if going for a king. Finishing it with the piano keys will look great. Love the batiks!
I agree with the black inner border, but I would pick a more solid looking batik for the outer border, one that includes some of the same colors!

Very very pretty. I think whatever you decide will look great.
nice l like the colours
This is really nice! I don't see why you could not add more blocks either horizontally or vertically. Or, if you really don't like it, make a new one using all the 12 batiks that you have. Either way, you end up with at least one (and possibly two) very pretty designs.
i really like it
Totally up to you ... would you like to make a bed quilt AND a lap top? Would you get tired of making the same pattern again or did you enjoy it so much that you'd love to make more? Those are the things that would go thru my head to decide.
It really is lovely, the fabric really give this a stained glass effect. |
I think it's lovely whatever size it's going to end up!
it's beautiful, just add side borders to make larger
I would enlarge it if that's what you want. It is BEAUTIFUL. The pattern repeats so it doesn't look that difficult to enlarge - and as others have recommended - use borders IF it doesn't detract from the quilt because it is beautiful as it is.
Really really pretty, but if it'll make you feel better I'll be glad to remove it from your sight! >grin<
What if you separate the 12 blocks you've got there. Then gather more batik fabrics and create more blocks using some of the same fabric colors used in your original blocks. Then shuffle and sew them up again. Might that work? Or make a lap quilt? Can you tell us what the name of the pattern is please? |
i love it and would just keep doing what you did till you get to the right size for the piano border....I would bind it in black.
very pretty!!!!!
Forget the pattern, add onto this doing what you did before...gorgeous!
A friend of mine did the same thing...cut wrong, did the best she could and won a ribbon at the quilt show w/ the "accidental" quilt! You've got a winner hee! |
