My Batik Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
It's not finished but I wanted to share. Maybe get an opinion or two. :)

I cut out the quilt - thinking if I liked it I would add to it and make it bigger. Well, I cut it out wrong and I'm not sure how hard it will be to follow the pattern now and make it bigger.

I have plenty of fabric and I am seriously considering completely starting over and just using this as a lap size quilt - probably as a gift.

Would you start over or try to enlarge this one?

Tartan 01-31-2013 09:12 PM

Really pretty! How much bigger do you need it? I think it would look cool to add the brick shapes, kind of like a large piano key border all around the perimeter. I would use the same size black in between the body of the quilt and the piano keys.

RobertaMarie 01-31-2013 09:22 PM

I think it is beautiful and whatever you do, it is going to be wonderful. I don't see what you did wrong. Can't you just add more rows to it? What do I know?? Show us what you come up with because the fabric is just outstanding, and I love the stained-glass look.

Scakes 01-31-2013 09:27 PM

We have a king size bed. :-( So it would have to be a LOT bigger. LOL.

I like your idea of the piano keys border. I think I'll do that. Thanks a bunch.

Maybe I phrased it wrong. I guess I didn't cut wrong - I didn't follow directions well. There was supposed to be 12 different batiks used and I only had about 5 I think. Just totally read that and then ignored it. I'll post another picture when I get it done. Glad you like it.

Dolphyngyrl 01-31-2013 09:41 PM

I would add more to this one, it is beautiful. I really like the gold color, makes everything pop

Lilrain 01-31-2013 10:06 PM

I would add on to that one. It is easy to see where the block is, so try to figure if it will work by adding a row of blocks, one way or both directions? if not maybe you can make it bigger by adding the black all the way around and a border of one of those gorgeous batiks

mighty 01-31-2013 10:17 PM

It is really beautiful! Maybe you did not follow directions but it worked!!!!!!

blueangel 01-31-2013 10:22 PM

It's really pretty..

Moonglow 01-31-2013 11:44 PM

Beautiful fabric choices. Adding borders as suggested is a good option to make it bigger. Looking forward to seeing the finished project.

Tollergirl 02-01-2013 02:16 AM

Looks great! You can certainly enlarge this one or start over. You clearly do quality work, so either way you will have a lovely finished product.

Evelynquilts 02-01-2013 03:10 AM

Love it !!!

QuiltnNan 02-01-2013 04:21 AM

it looks great. it depends whether you want another quilt with the same pattern as this one... for me, i only like one of any particular pattern.

ontheriver 02-01-2013 05:16 AM

I like it,beautiful colors. I agree with adding a row and then the piano border.

Gail B 02-01-2013 05:20 AM

Lovely quilt. Really like the stained glass effect.

BarbS 02-01-2013 05:23 AM

Wow....love your batiks!!!

MaryMo 02-01-2013 05:23 AM

Beautiful quilt ... fabulous color combinations! IMHO adding a row or two using same fabrics will keep the same theme, then add the piano key border.

Blinkokr 02-01-2013 05:25 AM

Beautiful job, thank you for sharing, I would continue adding to it
Have a Blessed day
Ellen

Nanaof4 02-01-2013 06:04 AM

I love your quilt, the 5 colors are gorgeous. I like the idea of a piano keys border. Please post a picture when it is finished.

HillCountryGal 02-01-2013 06:05 AM

Love it!
If it were mine, I'd add a wide strip, maybe 10-12". Then create the blocks again adding enough to make it the size you want. Don't stop, it's beautiful!!

Mariposa 02-01-2013 06:10 AM

This is really pretty!! I'd suggest that you add on to this. :)

Homespun 02-01-2013 06:28 AM

This is beautiful! Like tartan's idea to enlarge

gingerd 02-01-2013 06:33 AM

Add 2 more of the middle strip. Put one on each side of the current top. If you need to add more then work with borders.

germanquilter 02-01-2013 07:27 AM

Absolutely love your color choices...beautiful quilt :)

#1piecemaker 02-01-2013 07:35 AM

Keep going!!! Its beautiful!

gabeway 02-01-2013 07:37 AM

I would go ahead and make it bigger. You should be able to figure the pattern if going for a king. Finishing it with the piano keys will look great. Love the batiks!

grammysharon 02-01-2013 07:46 AM

I agree with the black inner border, but I would pick a more solid looking batik for the outer border, one that includes some of the same colors!

joyce888 02-01-2013 07:56 AM

Very very pretty. I think whatever you decide will look great.

Diane007 02-01-2013 08:39 AM

nice l like the colours

Canada Kate 02-01-2013 08:41 AM

This is really nice! I don't see why you could not add more blocks either horizontally or vertically. Or, if you really don't like it, make a new one using all the 12 batiks that you have. Either way, you end up with at least one (and possibly two) very pretty designs.

newbee3 02-01-2013 08:56 AM

i really like it

wraez 02-01-2013 09:00 AM

Totally up to you ... would you like to make a bed quilt AND a lap top? Would you get tired of making the same pattern again or did you enjoy it so much that you'd love to make more? Those are the things that would go thru my head to decide.

It really is lovely, the fabric really give this a stained glass effect.

northern lass 02-01-2013 10:20 AM

I think it's lovely whatever size it's going to end up!

nunnyJo 02-01-2013 01:32 PM

it's beautiful, just add side borders to make larger

Jan in FL 02-01-2013 01:42 PM

I would enlarge it if that's what you want. It is BEAUTIFUL. The pattern repeats so it doesn't look that difficult to enlarge - and as others have recommended - use borders IF it doesn't detract from the quilt because it is beautiful as it is.

Baloonatic 02-01-2013 03:42 PM

Really really pretty, but if it'll make you feel better I'll be glad to remove it from your sight! >grin<
What if you separate the 12 blocks you've got there. Then gather more batik fabrics and create more blocks using some of the same fabric colors used in your original blocks. Then shuffle and sew them up again. Might that work?
Or make a lap quilt?
Can you tell us what the name of the pattern is please?

red-warrior 02-01-2013 04:23 PM

i love it and would just keep doing what you did till you get to the right size for the piano border....I would bind it in black.

QUILTNMO 02-01-2013 05:03 PM

very pretty!!!!!

Sam Poodles 02-01-2013 05:55 PM

Forget the pattern, add onto this doing what you did before...gorgeous!
A friend of mine did the same thing...cut wrong, did the best she could and won a ribbon at the quilt show w/ the "accidental" quilt! You've got a winner hee!
