This is my very first attempt at a One Block Wonder. I sewed almost all of the hexagons by hand when I was in Texas visiting my son last year. Machine sewed the blocks and rows together. I can see I have a few that are misplaced, but this was a practice quilt and will just be used in the living room as a throw quilt.
I will be buying the book that teaches how to make the tumbler blocks this week so I'll start another one. I really like how the tumbler blocks makes the quilt. Hope you all like it, not my favorite quilt by far, but was great practice! First OBW |
It is beautiful. To you, you see things you would change, to me, I see gorgeous and things are as they should be
Tumbling blocks are so fun. You have the method down, now you just have to change the fabric a little |
I love it!

Its stunning!! great job.. I have one in pieces that I still have to attempt it some day!
|
You did a great job. I feel the same way about my first OBW (finished about a week ago). I enjoyed the process but more than that I learned so much about all the facets of making an OBW that my next attempt should really be fun, not to mention I might even like it! lol
Thanks for sharing. ;-) |

I love your colors! I just bought the book you are talking about and am anxiously looking forward to getting started on one. Until I joined this board, I really didn't know a thing about One Block Wonders, but I find them beautiful and fascinating. I hope I'm up to the challenge.

I do hexigons, grandmother's garden sometimes. I get a lot of joy from this type of pattern. Thanks for posting ! |

it is very good. I really like the center- it looks pretty cool.
I cannot believe you did it all by hand! I started to get tired of sewing them by machine. good luck on the next one |
Wow I remember when you started that and how beautiful it turned out! Lovely work. :-D

I think it looks lovely..I love the pinks and greens. I wasn't happy with my first (and so far only) OBW either, but others thought it was fine. Sometimes I think we are never satisfied with out own work...lol

Pretty soon we will have everyone converted to OBW's!!! I love it!!!
|
Very nice job
|
Do you have pictures of the original fabric?
|
I think your OBW is gorgeous. We are always our own worst critics. Super job. The OBW is on my "to do" list. Thanks for the inspiration.
|
Very pretty!!! Can't wait to do one but must finish a couple off others first. Am taking a couple of classes and have to work on those first. Too many projects - so little time and I thought that I could get sooo many things done now that I am retired.
|
Both OBWs that are posted in this thread are lovely. Everyone should try at least one - they are time-consuming however. I took the plunge a month or so ago and am slowly making it work - and enjoying every step along the way!
*Joan - you never seem to get as much done once your retired - don't ask me why ................. |
Someday I'm going to do one of those. I think it must be challenging to figure out the placement of the blocks.
|
Beautiful quilt! I've gotta try one of these someday....
|
Wow! Thank you so very much everyone! I'm still looking through my stash to find the original fabric so I'll post the pic when I find it.
I think everyone should try one of these quilts, so fun to see the blocks when done. I so want to learn the tumbler blocks to go along, then I'll attempt another, but not hand sewn. This was my first hand sewn quilt and I'd much rather rely upon my machine's 1/4" seam lol. I had a real hard time with seam width consistency, but it was still fun! |
I Think it's wonderful
