for those who wanted to see the whole quilt here it is ....... sewn with pearl cotton embroidery thread ... it took about 6 months to make each quilt .... this quilt is made from neckties from friends and family ..in the 80's she started buying neck ties from Goodwill for 5 dollars a big trash bag and only used the silk ties .... this was her thing and she loved it .... lost her 4 years ago... she is greatly missed

thanks so much for sharing!
My mom and I were just talking about neck tie quilts last week. I told her NOT to throw out any of daddy's ties! (he's a pastor and has A LOT of ties, many of which I've bought him over the years - as a child it was my favorite gift to give him lol) |
Lawwww child, that is beautiful. Such a beauty!
I will post the pillow pics which I made in a while they were my beginings to neckties and crazy quilting .....all sewn by hand
Wow! I'm speachless! That is so beautiful. Is it hard to sew the silk ties?
Breathtaking. Thank you for posting these pictures. I wanted to see the entire setting. Absolutely beautiful. Treasure it and remember her.

Simply amazing!
Wow! Very nice!!
Wow, that is to cool. I'd have to go out and buy ties. My DH owns one. lol
Gorgeous quilt, a real treasure for you. Your Mom did fabulous work.
Those ties are certainly from the 80s. They make a great quilt but can you imagine what they looked like with a suit? That's one style I hope doesn't come back. LOL |
such a beautiful quilt and a beautiful memory forever
It is gorgeous!! So creatative!! Great way of remembering a guy.
  |
I too have tons of my DH ties...most with a story in them. Ex. tie matching DD dress for father daughter dances.
I cannot bear to cut them up. have been thinking along your moms line but keeping them in tack. I will have to think on this a while more . thank you for sharing :) did she hand embroider or machine them? lot of thread changing if she machined. |
This is fabulous!
How do you assemble that? Is it sewn onto a foundation? Do you take out the "interfacing" of the ties? Maybe you can teach us how to do this.
A Beautiful Quilt!
It's beautiful! Quite a bit of work and love went into it.

Now, I know how to use my huge bag full. I started but never finished. thanks for sharing.
Her embroidery is beautiful. Love your quilt inspector.
Thanks for posting the whole picture. I made a Christmas tree skirt for my daughter from neckties and it was terrific looking. Have loads of ties and will probably try something like this as I wanted to make a crazy quilt with the different embroidery stitches but this would kill two quilting birds with one stone.
Absolutely beautiful! The office where I work went from business attire to casual so the men didn't have to wear ties anymore. I put up a sign in the cafeteria for tie donations and I ended up with almost 200 mens silk ties. I've been looking for a pattern to use them with. This is one of the top ideas now!
Stunning!! Makes me smile brightly...Blessings to you and thank you for sharing the pic!!
oh this is absolutely gorgeous!! I've never seen on done in this pattern and I love it
Love the quilt! My dear father-in-law was a retired pastor and had many ties. I have most of them...Now, I know I will have to make a tie-quilt. Thanks for sharing.
This is so beautiful....you are blessed to have something made by your Mom.
I have many many beautiful silk ties.......I go by Goodwill every couple of weeks and buy a few to add to my growing collection. I am seriously considering making a quilt like your Mom's.......it's really outstanding! |

What a beautiful quilt, thanks for sharing.

Great quilt.
I asked my pastor not long ago if he would keep his old ties for me instead of getting rid of them and he said, "I never get rid of my ties. I must have aroune 200 and some are 30 years old or more. I keep everyone. Wouldn't think of getting rid of them." Can you immagine some of the designs he must have? Wish I could get my hands on them and make a beautiful quilt like this one. Very nice. |
Very Pretty thank you for sharing....
