First off, thanks so much to everyone yesterday for their comments and encouragement about my first wonky block.
I sat down to do another one last night and ended up with four 12.5" blocks from my stash. I love these things! They are totally scrap busting. I haven't even made a dent in my scrap pile and I've got these 4 awesome blocks. I like the ones with the Hedgehogs in the centre the best, but it's a learning process and I'm just going to keep on making them. I was thinking about putting some white sashing around them once I have enough for a quilt to tie them all together and give them some space from each other. |
These are really cute, and look like a great way to use some of the long narrow strips left over from other projects.

Those are so cute. I love the wonky look of them. Keep it up.

Beautiful way to use up scraps! Thanks for sharing with us!
May I suggest "quilting in sections" so you can use your fancy stitches on your machine to quilt the blocks. Look at this link: http://www.quilterscache.com/H/howto...neatatime.html |
I totally don't have any fancy stitches on my machine, it's a 30 year old pfaff!
But thanks for the link, I'm going to read up on it for sure. I was also thinking about making this a project where I practice my FMQ skills (or lack thereof!). |
Are you doing this the foundation piecing method?
|
Great blocks. They would work well for me to use the strips that I cut crooked when I am not supposed to (lol)

I'm such a newbie that I don't even know what that is! Basically I start with a square, trim off a side or two to give it some "wonk" and then attach a strip to the top and bottom, trim the ends of the strips off to match the sides, and then sew a strip to each side. Then I "wonk" the new block again and repeat the process. Like this: http://www.quiltdad.com/2009/09/quil...n-squares.html |
