What a wonderful quilt. He will love it all the more since he got to select the fabrics (and pay for them). I just had this conversation with m sis. I made quilts for all her grandchildren (free) and then she asked for another for a friend. When I said there would be a charge she could not understand why since I had the fabric and time. She understands more clearly now..:)

There is nothing like having to pay the price for all that fabric, batting, thread and quilting to open the eyes of a non-quilter just what these quilts cost. Not to mention driving to the stores (gas), pattern, time, electricity and needles ... LOL.
