i've been working on this off and on since the day after xmas. all the blocks are done, and i'm about halfway through assembling them for the top. guess who is sick of half-square triangles.

tarib 01-19-2009 04:35 AM

I know what you mean. Do you have a quick way of doing half triangles?

By the way that looks great, can't wait to see it finished.

patricej 01-19-2009 06:52 AM

thanks, all, very much.

it's my own design. for all i know, there's a block just like it out there somewhere, but since i'm making it up as i go along i hope i'm correct in claiming that it's an original.

the fabrics are from Michael Miller Fairy Frost line.

i've named it Mineral Rights because the two prints on black are Copper and Gold.

mgshaw 01-19-2009 06:57 AM

patricej 01-19-2009 07:33 AM

320 HSTs so far. (not counting the ones in the scrap drawer or land fill. )

it'll be just over 5' x 5' when i've done the center. haven't yet decided what do do beyond that. it'll come to me by the time i need an idea. i hope.

jacquemoe 01-19-2009 07:45 AM

bj 01-19-2009 07:49 AM

sewsewquilter 01-19-2009 09:21 AM

Patrice, When we design something as we go and call it ours what IF there is another one just like it somewhere? Can we get in trouble? You know that copywright stuff?? By the way I LOVE your quilt.

patricej 01-19-2009 10:00 AM

the first designer would have to prove in a court of law that there's no way another person could possibly have come up with the design on their own. or that a published version of the design was so readily available that i would've found it with little effort.

looks too much like too many blocks in the public domain for me to worry about any of that.

candi 01-19-2009 10:43 AM

love it, love it, love it, love it.....
It is magnificant!

sewnsewer2 01-19-2009 10:46 AM

I cut squares and then make two at a time. By drawing a diagonal line from corner to corner, use the drawn line to sew a 1//4 seam allowance on both sides, and then cut down your line. Eleanor Burns has a way to do it that makes 8 at a time I think, but I can never remeber the math.

Other use thangles, those are sort of like stickers that you put on the fabric and sew on the sewing lines and then remove the thangles.

No wonder you're sick of them Patrice! :D

Marcia 01-19-2009 12:13 PM

Wow!!! Patrice--that is just stunning!!! I have never seen a block like it before--you are very good at "making it up as I go along". I LOVE the thin black line that divides the sections--really sets it all off. Simply put-a beautiful creation!!! I cannot wait to see more of it!!!!

tarib 01-19-2009 12:28 PM

Elizabeth

Thats the way I do it also. Just wondered if there was a faster way.

pal 01-19-2009 01:08 PM

Magnificent, that's all.

shellyp 01-19-2009 01:22 PM

CissyQuilts 01-19-2009 06:47 PM

Wow! That is going to be stunning!

barnbum 01-19-2009 06:50 PM
