and I did indeed laugh out loud when I noticed this while quilting it - 20 blocks make up this quilt - didn't notice the piecing mistake I made in the center block showing until nearly done with the quilting. This is a quilt I started about two years ago and has to be finished before I can start a new quilt project - one of my NY resolutions to finish up at least one UFO per month. Well, mistake stays - keeping Q anyway. Just can't believe all the time spent on this quilt I never noticed it - should have at least caught it when sandwiching!

oh - and any suggestions on color of binding?

cathyvv 01-17-2011 11:56 AM

Well, I had to look very hard to find the mistake, so don't worry about it. Just tell everyone you meant to do that to see if they were paying attention!

It's a beautiful quilt. Enjoy it.

azwendyg 01-17-2011 11:57 AM

Funny how these things happen, isn't it? Your quilt is BEAUTIFUL, and if anyone asks, tell them it's your special touch on this design!

QuiltnCowgirl 01-17-2011 11:59 AM

What about the cream & the tan pieced around?

Kitsapquilter 01-17-2011 12:00 PM

That one block is made to use as your label. You can print you info in the white pieces in that block. It really isn't that noticeable.

GrannyW5 01-17-2011 12:00 PM

I had to really look to for the difference. Most people will not notice it Very nice quilt. I think I would go with a tan/light brown binding.

wolph33 01-17-2011 12:01 PM

looks great anyway

yea i thought that too. and do have enuf of it - may lay that out with it and see how it looks if I ever get the quilting done - taking forever! Probably seems to take longer b/c I am anxious to start a new project - have one layed out ready to go so is frustrating.

I call these "Design opportunities"

paintedquilt 01-17-2011 12:02 PM

Very handsome :!:

som 01-17-2011 12:02 PM

i cant see it

melslove 01-17-2011 12:04 PM

I had to stare at it a good five minutes before i could find it, don't think its anything to worry about. Its a beautiful quilt! I love the colors!

Also you know there is the legend that Amish and Mennonite women put a mistake in each quilt because only God is perfect therefore it would be prideful to make a perfect quilt.

If anybody says anything you could say that's what you did :)

Vicki W 01-17-2011 12:04 PM

You could embroider on the the cream in that block and make it part of your design. Lovely work.

I think the cream might be a good binding.

som 01-17-2011 12:06 PM

oh/ i see it .dont worry about it your quilt is beautiful.it sure isnt noticeable

luvspaper 01-17-2011 12:06 PM

Beautiful and I love that it is the middle block that is different!

You know what I love for bindings? Stripes! So if you could find one in those colors, it would make it pop!

But I've been very lucky to find matching stripes lately...

amma 01-17-2011 12:07 PM

It looks intentional! It would have stood out more if it would have been on one of the sides
It is a beautiful quilt :D:D:D

Kimkankwilt 01-17-2011 12:07 PM

I find that every quilt I make has at least one mistake. Most times, nobody notices.

C.Cal Quilt Girl 01-17-2011 12:09 PM

Lt Brown..... What BooBoo?? Looks Great!

missionslady 01-17-2011 12:09 PM

Your quilt is so beautiful. I had to look at it quite a while to find the mistake. The color and beautiful design is what stands out. I would go with a tan binding. Enjoy that quilt, and I wouldn't even mention that there is a mistake. I bet no one will ever notice!

Sandi19 01-17-2011 12:09 PM

It took me a long time to find the error. Just ignore it!

ann clare 01-17-2011 12:14 PM

Spaces to sign and date it.

quiltsRfun 01-17-2011 12:15 PM

It's not that obvious. I probably wouldn't have noticed it it I hadn't been looking. I congratulate you on sticking with your resolution to finish a UFO per month.

carolaug 01-17-2011 01:17 PM

I love it!!! Looks wonderful to me!

Jim's Gem 01-17-2011 01:59 PM

I like to think of those as "personalization" of the quilt pattern. Looks great!!!!

Lee in Richmond 01-17-2011 02:11 PM

Stunning colors! I knew a small home builder who always hung one little piece of wallpaper upside down as his signature, somewhere that it didn't ruin the style but was always a reminder of him and his friendship to those he built for. As for the Mennonites, who among us has ever made a really perfect quilt? Not me!

Sadiemae 01-17-2011 02:13 PM

"I planned it this way!" That is always my story...

carhop 01-17-2011 02:57 PM

i realy had to stare at it to find the mistake nice top

kapatt 01-17-2011 02:59 PM

:) Your quilt is wonderful and unique. It is a "one of a kind".
I like the colors and pattern your picked.
You did a great job!

bamamama 01-17-2011 03:01 PM

I think that it is the mistakes that make them special. Some of mine are very very special.

bjnicholson 01-17-2011 03:05 PM

It honestly looks like you planned it that way. Love the colors. I would bind it with the same color in the outer binding. JMHO

Great job!! :-D

QuiltingHiker 01-17-2011 03:10 PM

I had to look at it a while before it jumped out. Don't mention it and most won't even see it.

roseOfsharon 01-17-2011 03:11 PM

It took me at least 5 minutes searching for it! Now in my opinion if it takes that long to see it, then it's not a mistake! :) Great quilt Nancy.

nana pat 01-17-2011 03:11 PM

looks like you made a special place to write special word or scriptures to me. No mistake, just Gods way of leading you inyo a growing plsce. I really like your quilt.

piepatch 01-17-2011 03:12 PM

Love your quilt and do not regard the middle block as a mistake.....just another pretty block that is part of the quilt. As for the binding, I think either bind with that dark tan that is in the quilt, or use the same fabric that is in the border.

nativetexan 01-17-2011 03:13 PM

now, now, now. you meant to do that. it fits, doesn't it? there fore you meant to do that. i like it.

Lucymae 01-17-2011 03:15 PM

The Amish always put a mistake in their quilts because only God is perfect.

It is a beautiful quilt.!!

sherriequilts 01-17-2011 03:21 PM

Found it and I think it just looks like you planned it, especially since it is in the center.

brendag 01-17-2011 03:25 PM

No need to laugh, its pretty. I would think that since its in the center, that is the way its supposed to be.

blue10moon9 01-17-2011 04:41 PM

Actually - I like it. I would incorporate your label in the special block. They'll think it was intentional.
