OK, I've finally started my first OBW. It's going to be a 50th BD present for my sistwerp. Ten down, 62 more to go!

Gee, I hope I finish before she turns 60!

The fabric is Michael Miller.

Thanks to k3n for holding my hand through the pinning and cutting! Bisous, Bisous!

cutebuns 10-09-2009 01:30 PM

I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!! job well done, I can't wait to see how the rest goes,

I wish I had that print for my landscape, I think it would have done great in it,

Ninnie 10-09-2009 01:32 PM

I love those!! ok, now I just have to do one also
My list would wrap a city block now :D :D

gaigai 10-09-2009 01:32 PM

Notice how that bottom left block looks like sliced strawberries!? At least in the photo, but not in real.

Lacelady 10-09-2009 01:32 PM

Gai, this is absolutely lovely but will your sistwerp appreciate what you call her? LOL. She will definitely appreciate the quilt though.

gaigai 10-09-2009 01:34 PM

Ninnie, these are cut with strips 3.75 inches, following the instructions in the OBW book, but I think for the next one I'll cut the strips 6 inches.

cutebuns 10-09-2009 01:34 PM

They do! the blocks are going together great!

Of course she will! She's the one who left me the BD message about thighs and plastic lawn chairs!

And I hope she'll like it. If not, I know her daughter will, and their BD's are just two days apart!

And the BD part will be held in the Texas Hill Country, so the fabric was chosen specifically for her.

cutebuns 10-09-2009 01:38 PM

I gage how big my strips will be cut by the size of the repeat and the size of the print, the great thing is that they all turn out the same size block, no need to figure anything out to get them all the same,

amma 10-09-2009 01:46 PM

WOW  Those are gorgeous!!! Good Job :D :D :D

gaigai 10-09-2009 01:47 PM

Yeah, Cutie, you miniature queen you. How big were the strips for the landscape quilt?

gaigai 10-09-2009 01:48 PM

Thanks Amma. They certainly are bright! :P :P

gaigai 10-09-2009 01:49 PM

When I look at the stacks of triangles, I want to start singing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall! ROFL

kwhite 10-09-2009 01:52 PM

Beautiful. I love it. Amd that is saying somthing since I don't care much for OBW

cutebuns 10-09-2009 01:53 PM

ummmm, do you really want to know?

billswife99 10-09-2009 02:15 PM

Wow! Those are gorgeous! How big is this one going to be? I love Micheal Miller prints.

Now I'm going to be singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall everytime I work on mine. :x

gaigai 10-09-2009 02:19 PM

Yes, Cutie I do want to know.

Thanks Bonbon. I love the fabric you used, it is so pretty!

98 bottles of beer........

cutebuns 10-09-2009 02:20 PM

Okay, you asked for it, they are 1 3/4 " which makes about a two inch block.

barnbum 10-09-2009 02:26 PM

Wow!! That's the first OBW I've really liked--I think because of the variety in color. That fabric looks familiar... do I have that? If so, I haven't used it yet.

gaigai 10-09-2009 02:34 PM

Thanks, Karla. Like I said, it certainly is bright!

Cutie, I think I have a headache just thinking about triangles that small!

Kwhite, I know you're just saying that 'cause you love me!

cutebuns 10-09-2009 02:39 PM

you should have seen me trying to work with them with the dead line that I had, That is what I get for choosing a small print.

Tabby1957 10-09-2009 02:41 PM

How beautiful....great fabric choice. I wish I had the courage to try a OBW.

Hey, if I can do it, anyone can!

Ducky 10-09-2009 03:13 PM

That's going to be really lovely, Gai. It's perfect fabric -- each block looks so different -- I love it. One of these decades I'll get around to doing one....if I ever get caught up on things I'm supposed to do.

NorBanaquilts 10-09-2009 03:18 PM

Wow, that's going to be great. Can't wait to see it all together.

Overlander 10-09-2009 03:31 PM

I love the fabric and they way your blocks are turning out. Isn't this a great pattern?

kwhite 10-09-2009 03:48 PM

Yes I do love you Gai but I do also like your OBW. Like Barnbum said that is one of the first ones I have liked because of the colors. I guess I just tend to lean towards the more trditional quilts but I am trying to break out of the box. I di do a stained glass afterall.

barnbum 10-09-2009 03:55 PM

Soo--just out of curiosity...you don't put those together by the block? You do it in rows?

I can't get past how you'd cut exactly the same triangles either... it's been a long week, so don't try to explain. I like a good mystery.

cutebuns 10-09-2009 03:58 PM

The blocks are done in halves, so there is three pieces a side, so there is a straight edge to put with a straight edge, you hold them together with a pin to lay them out. I have some blocks sitting around if you need a picture to figure it out, sometimes they help a lot.

Oh barnbum I would probably drive you crazy! I love a good mystery too, but only if I know what is going to happen! I read the end of a book first, usually before I even buy it. And before I go to a movie I check out "Movie Spoiler.com" to find out exactly what happens and how it ends.

Esqmommy 10-09-2009 08:29 PM

ooooh, so pretty Gai. I have a sistwerp too, but she really is one!!!!

Love what you're doing - can't wait to see it fall into place.

k3n 10-10-2009 12:48 AM

Wow Gai those are looking fabtastic. (that was actually a typo - the b is next to the n on my French keyboard, but I keft it because it's a good word! )

Now I HAVE to try one with bright colours, although the two lots of yardage sitting in my stash waiting to be OBWd are both fairly muted. Oh well, just have to buy MORE!!! :D

Are you trying the triangles each of the 3 possible ways each time or just going with straight of grain on the outside edge? Sometimes I even take PHOTOS of the three possible ways to help me decide. It's such fun seeing the sometimes widely different effects you get just from the same six triangles. This is what I LOVE about OBWs, the actual piecing process is such fun and interesting. That's from someone whose just pieced 124 QST units for a door curtain - BO-RING!!!!

Um, straight of the grain?!!! I'm supposed to look at that :?: :?:

No, I just lay them out and decide which one I like best, then go for it. I have 20 done so far, so I'm calling a break and gonna go to bed.

I've finished my IRR center. My sewchine is working ok again. I guess it was temporarily possessed, but now is back to normal. But my printer is out of black ink, so I'll have to go shopping today to get a cartridge, then print my label and I'll be done. And I've finished my October doll quilt, so I'm actually slightly ahead of the curve! Whew!!!

Naaahh - I just use that as the 'default' position if I can't decide. :D

Glad your machine is behaving again, nitey nite! :D

pocoellie 10-10-2009 03:14 AM

Going to be a gorgeous quilt!!

kwhite 10-10-2009 06:23 AM
