Three AAQI quilts finished, now to get them registered.

This afternoon I put the last stitches on the binding of these 3 quilts for AAQI.
The first one is an experiment using the phases of the moon. I found Sara Teasdale's poem--and took the first 2 words and last 3 words to put on front. The second is a further downsizing of a Civil War Cot quilt, more info in this thread. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ed-t47479.html The third is fence rail inspired by this bit of antique doll quilt. I like the contrast of light and dark. |
Great ideas! I do love the rail fence. Your little moon quilt is so "artsy"- I like it, too.
|
Agreed, the moon quilt really is artsy. That little piece of the rail fence quilt is darling! I can see how it would inspire you.
|
yes very creative... good luck
|
All are very nice ~ and for a very good cause!
|
Your minis are so darlin'! Some day I'll try a mini but until then I'll live vicariously thru yours. :)
|
Thanks everyone--Now to get them registered and sent off.

Very creative, great job and thank you for sharing.
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
They all look GREAT!!!

Each one of those little quilts is a treat for the eyes! I am in love with the fence rail. The AAQI is going to be able to raise a good bit of funds with your pretty quilts - people are going to snap them up! Bravo to you!
How big is the teeny tiny little velvet (or is it silk?) quilt you have pictured first and last? What did you use for the bakcing - it is very intriguing! I have always smiled when I read the signature poem you used by Basho! |
Oh thank you Lara. The antique little rail fence is silk I think--and have no idea how big it is, but it was enough for me to fall in love with it. If each strip was 1" finished then the overall quilt would be about 15 x 20; a nice doll sized quilt. Would love to have it as my own, so sorry can't tell you what for backing was used. Do you see the irregular fringes? Maybe it had a silk knotted fringe on the sides.
Glad you like Basho's poem--it's one of my favorites. A poem with many meanings. |
They are all so great! I like the railfence the most - perfect minis as always!
regards, T. |
Thanks, T. They are each special to me in their own way. I have dedicated the cot quilt (muslin strip quilt) to an ancestor who followed her husband into the American Civil War (1860's) as a battlefield nurse, so thought a great deal about Lydia and how her life was changed and how she was changed by caring for the wounded and dying. But yes I really like the rail fence too!
|
what a great touch to dedicate the quilt to your ancestor! BTW: my mothers name was Lydia too. :-)
