We were visiting dear friends in East Texas over Memorial Day weekend and look what she had in her house that she is giving me. She and her husband lived in Houston and we worked for the same company and became very good friends, and our friendship has continued even if we live 300 miles apart now. She told me she bought this Singer machine in the mid-70's for $50 and she had never opened it. Her husband did not have a clue that there really was a machine in the cabinet until I opened it. Needless to say, I was extremely excited to see this beautiful vintage Singer sewing machine.
The serial number is GO819042. I checked the Singer website and it states production was beginning in 1935 and it was made in the Clydebank, Scotland factory. How can I find out what Model it is? I will bring it home on my next visit. |
Lucky, lucky you! Congratulations!

It's a 66 "Red-eye" (because of the - ahem, red eyes on either side of the word Singer)
|

Can you imagine the awe of the person who first bought this beauty?!! Such history. Congratulations! I'd say both the machine and friend are keepers.

Pm Billy and ask him. He's the resident expert on vintage machines. Be careful, he'll probably want to buy it from you! LOL LOL
|
Beautiful! Both your friend and the machine. It's a Red Eye - Look on the Singer site there's an area where you can look up the serial number by 'no letter' 'single letter' 'double letter'. That will tell you for sure what model it is. A 66 is coming to mind.

it's a singer 66 I just said so
a red eye singer 66 how much clearer does it need to be? |

You are one lucky lady. Your new baby is in beautiful condition. Won't she be fun to sew on?

Check with Billy I 'll bet he can tell you all about it. That is just beautiful and it was still boxed? Was the cabinet with it or just the machine? It's a beauty. Congrats. Lucky You.

I think I would just have to make a special trip to visit and retrieve my beautiful gift.
