Here's some pics of the way I've been doing qayg. I think I learned this from the CrazyShortcutQuilts site or videos.

The first photo shows the front side 1 3/4" strip, folded in half, sewn to the top and the back side 1 1/8" strip sewn to both blocks. I've offset the 'blocks' so the stitching is easier to see.

I do it this way so I can machine stitch the top, but the process can be reversed if you want to stitch from the back.

The 2nd photo shows the back view with the 1 1/8 strip sewn to both blocks

The 3rd photo shows the front view.

Sorry I haven't done a tutorial. I'm spending most of my time trying to find work before the unemployment runs out in 5 weeks.

Is your front tube quilting ? Then after you cut that out you quilt that to the backing ? Thanks for your help :thumbup:

That makes sense. And I may just have to take my quilt-as-you-go apart (for the third time) and try this method. I've been avoiding working on it because I'm not happy with the way it's turning out. This might be the answer. Thanks for sharing.

Do you hand stitch the seam down after turning it in half? Yours looks so much neater , not seeing machine stitch on the edge.

Yes, the front is tube quilting and I made each block front and back, added the batting, quilted it on the machine, then joined the squares. I'll add a pic of the back. The seams are machine stitched. I don't do hand stitching - yet.:-)

Fons and Porter just recently had a show on quilt as you go. They suggested covering your raw edges with jumbo rick rack or ribbon if for a baby quilt. Betty Cotton also has a book out for qayg.
