I made a Dresden Plate quilt for one of our family reunions, all done in medium/bright blues, it was gorgeous when finished. I used Eleanor Burn's pattern, I think out of her "Still Stripping after all these years" One of my brothers won the quilt, then told me that I'd have a hard time making a better quilt after that one. Maybe he was slightly prejudiced because he won the quilt, darn, as I really wanted it. We have bi-annual family reunions, each family sends fabric in the color choice I determine; then I make a quilt to be raffled off. I make a little extra cash, have created a one of a kind quilt, and someone in the family goes home a "happy camper". I'm still debating about what to do for next year's July 4th reunion, but I think I have enough scraps and leftover fabric to make a quilt, I haven't decided yet. It's been a great way to take fabrics I would probably not have chosen and make a beautiful quilt, so I'm starting to like scrappy quilts more, but each quilt is a challenge to me. Now I'm making a king size Dresden Plate quilt for my son and DIL, hopefully I can finish before Christmas this year, but I have the blades all sewn, just need to make the rest of the quilt. Wish me luck.
