I may be wrong, but I think most of the stories in that book have been questioned....and yes, I did read the book and also attended a presentation by the author....both were interesting, but now questionable. That being said....all quilt blocks have a history behind them.......pioneers in covered wagons tranversing this continent...lonely women on a prairie thinking of family miles away......etc......some happy, some sad......

Great blocks and great stories even if they are just legends. Please post more as you do them. And don't forget pictures of the completed quilt.

I have the book & want to make the blocks. Legend -true no one really knows!! I'm sure word got around what blocks meant - all news traveled even without social media we have. Back when they had their own social media. Beautiful blocks!!

There are books out about the Underground Railroad and what each of the quilts signified.

My thoughts exactly. But people have unbelievable ways of keeping in touch. These people had their own native ways.

These are beautiful. I have always loved the book about Harriet Tubman (I believe that was her name) and the underground railroad. I know there is a lot of controversy and won't get into the political of it. I just found the book and story fascinating and how they used the different quilts to mark the way for safe passage.

Not all legends are fictional.
